  1. I'd rather die with my atoms intact and a phase pistol in my hand. :D Preferable charting some unknown sector. OK, well preferable not to die at all...
  2. Yes, that sounds more accurate. It was a while ago I heard this and had to drag it all up from memory. Even so, it is still the first step to actual transporter technology. Even if we had them now, I'm not sure I would be comfortable using one though. Its actually quite a scary thought.
  3. I can only imagine that when the set designers were told to make a new enterprise that is set before TOS they all cried... and decided to empty their grabage of toilet roll tubes and buttons. If the designers actually followed the old design we would end up with something that resembled a thunderbirds draft scene. Space Shuttles of today look more advanced than TOS technology. Also bare in mind that back in 1996, we was supposed to have some sort of super human war (Wrath of Khan). We never, so that immediatly invalidated Star Trek history. Looking at NX-01, I still see a more basic ship than NCC-1701, as it is smaller, less populated, lighter armed, and less facilities onboard. If the NCC-1701 was updated with modern televised technology I'm sure they would draw on deck plates, windows and external access points. If they were aware back then that Star Trel would be alive in the 21st cetury, they would have tweaked the History a bit to compensate. I applaud the writers for tweaking the timeline to such an extent that it is indeed plausible. As for M/AM engines, they are plausible as we have already created minute quanitities of antimatter already in the last century and if we know that 97% of the universe if dark matter, so all we need is a way to gather it. We managed to gather radio signals didn't we? Matter transporters have also taken a big step in our time too. Scientists have already managed to copy the basic molecular structure of some bacteria to a small distance. Its not transportation as such but merely a replication of the original but we also have the beginnings of protein resequencer. So before long, we COULD have A/AM engines and transporters and food replicators. Especially with todays accellerating technology.
  4. Polarising the Hull Plate is actually an effective technique. if you have read your old Star Trek Technical Manuals, you will see that every starship from the constitution class onwards to the sovereign class has polarisation, otherwise called deflectors. The actual science works like this: If you have an explosion, it would explode outwards and it would eject positive energy, and like a magnet, Negative energy attracts it, like lightning to a conductor. So naturally, you reverse it so you have two positive ends and they both repell one another. Or something like that. Basically, polarising the Hull effectively matches the ships plateing to the polarisation of the warhead/energy beam and tries to push away all energy it can. Most science in Star Trek has been created in a way that it all links to either thoeries or extended on what we already have.
  5. Interesting to see how they do the Constitution Class ship. Will it be in the old colours inside? What about the uniforms? Will they change? So many questions... I guess we'll all have to wait. No way it'll get cancelled with so many things to answer. The series reminds me of Smallville, the precursor to Superman - in subject, not context.
  6. After searching for proof of this, I have noticed some anti-fan sites wanting it to be cancelled, and rumours that it might be, but nothing solid. One site denied it was being cancelled and they say: "Sets currently being built for episodes 20-21, Berman & Braga writing episode 22. Plus: Expect an action-packed second half of the season!" I don't believe they will cancel the show without giving them a chance to pull back the ratings.
  7. The bigger the ship, the harder they fall. Like the galaxy class took out the best part of a forest when the saucer section tried going Drive Thru in Generations. I half expected Riker to go, "Yeah... uhh, four hundred cheesebuger meals please." Anyway... Defiant is my favorite as its like those mosquitos that you can't swat that have those bites that make you itch for hours. Except the Defiant takes chunks out. Not to mention its is just as fast as the big ships and the armour makes it tougher... and the first ship to have Quantum Torps. Second favorite is the Sovereign, a nice regal ship that isn't afraid to pack a punch. Then the Galaxy, a modest ship, although a bit outdated now. Then Constution... the cadillac of the stars. A classic in all respects, even though it probably couldn't put up much of a fights these days, but I admire it for its history and its vintage.
  8. Unfortunatly being in UK I only get to see the shows that happen to stroll my way, also there happens to be the fact that I don't have regular access to a cable equipped TV. I have seen all of Season 1 and have seen some of Season 2. Naturally, in a few weeks I shall be up to date. So far the series has been very good. I like the fact that you can see the relation between our world and the trek world as we know it. Enterprise is the missing link that binds the world that we live in to the world that Star Trek has become. I commend the producers for such a daring and imaginative show.
