hartnell114
lol im glad someone brought this up, ive been banging on about these kinds of things for about a year or two now ,lol and so far ive got...nowhere, its nice to know someones interested in these things, im my opinion...who isnt!?! well ive spoken to several people and it would seem that they think at least two more episodes will show themselves in the next 2 to 3 years, ive thought about this alot and lol ive probabally willed them into existance! but if we could only bring back 2 in the next two years ,which episodes would we choose, lol they would have to do a lost in time update, which leads me to my second thing... I have the lost in time dvd and would gladly post the episodes up on here, but they are the original VOB files, ive tried to convert these many a time and no success so i will post one of them up, a good one such as the evil of the daleks (seing as it was requested) and please god PM me if you manage to convert the file and let me know what you used! that way i will finish off the collection. i know that you are all dedicated people and will help towards a good cause and ive always wondered if there is any sort of doners club where money of fans is given into the fund and maybe a few select fans could them use this in exchange for missing episodes, certain terms and conditions would have to be worked out of course lol like seing the episode or footage before the exchange takes place, ive read that this may be well 'not allowed' but whose to say? lol i mean would we really mind, it would be something we can look back on and say , i helped get that back ,ive become part of whovian history forever, its partly thanks to me that this is here, it would give alot of people that warm fuzzy feiling that so many of us are missing...just me then, on my own lol! but seriously, how about it? Ps)if someone could post the patrick troughton in america dvd i would be eternally greatful. -rob :)
underscore
Heya dude, to convert vobs to divx or xvid or whatever, you need to get the GKNOT software from doom9.org there is a utility in there that is specifically for doing this. Have a look at their tutorials as well to give you full walkthroughs of how to use them. A post of evil of the daleks would rule as I havent seen that in a while! On the topic of missing episodes, its worth noting that with the explosion in the availability of information online some astounding finds have been made in the last couple of years.... :: :) Recently an episode of the avengers, believed to be irretrivably lost due to the fact that it was 'apparently' never taped at the time (a lot of stuff was broadcast live back then), was located on an american universities new online database of film that it held! Also the first third of the very first ever episode of the avengers was located the same way!! Amazing! there is only one existing episode from the entire first season prior to this find that was only made possible by dedicated fans using the tools at their disposal. The seemingly impossible can happen! Also last year, 2 missing episodes from the vintage BBC show 'Z-cars' turned up on ebay. These were purchased by a consortium of good fans who then returned them to the archive. The missing episode list of Z-cars is even worse than Dr Who, not a lot exists at all out of hundreds of episodes. But i guess the point is that if everyone keeps their eyes and ears open all the time and investigates every possibility then who knows.........? I found some film cans at a car boot sale a little while ago, my heart skipped a beat, but they didnt turn out to be anything unfortunately.... but you never can tell! hartnell114
the Patrick Troughton in America DVD, well i had downloaded some of it before but on winmx lol and ive not been able to get it since, it shows the wonderful mr troughton at some conventions, it has a little slideshow with some photographs of him squirting jon pertwee with a water pistol ?(of barying sizes! lol) and just him on home recorded videos, theres a nice scene where he plays a recorder (skye boat song i think) and says good god i still remember that form all that time or sumthing like that, umm theres an interview from an unaired pbs prrgram there and the full unaired television show, its a good dvd that shows a nice little highlight from troughtons work as an actor and his time on Doctor WHO. its worth having if your a 2nd doctor fan, im cheap...and would rather get it for free...cough yes... lol
paniq
There will be people who hoard any episodes they have, but I guess it depends what happens to their stuff afterwards? I mean, if a fan was in a position to get the stuff in 1969, then they may have been mid 30s or mid 40's, could be soon or in a decade their estates may need disposing of. underscore
Yeah, it is an interesting point. Whose to know how people might dispose of stuff when they croak...? The families might succeed where the BBC failed.........
pleiades
It always amuses me when the old hoarding/ secret viewing society chestnut gets raised again. :) It would hardly be worth any fan's while to keep stuff away from the BBC; they'd most likely get a paid trip to TV centre to record the episode, interviews for the dvd, and possibly a bulging goody bag of stuff to remind them of their day. New episodes are great publicity for expensive DVD releases. As for whether episodes exist, I'd say that maybe around five are knocking around either in private hands or the BBC archive labelled as one man and his dog or something. Whether they'll get found before they degrade or are thrown out by mistake is another matter entirely. I like to look on the bright side - we have all of the audios and many telesnaps thanks to the diligence of fans. One day an artist may decide to animate an episode into a broadcastable advertisment for their talent which would be fun to see. Something has occured to me as I was writing this... If an anonymous person were to, for example, upload a currently missing episode to bittrickle or something... Apart from the fact that it would get a billion leeches overnight once it was proven to be genuine, which would be excellent to see in itself; I wonder if it would enourage the nice folk from auntie to unofficially overlook the online trading of such material. trebor
I wonder if it would enourage the nice folk from auntie to unofficially overlook the online trading of such material. Anything is possible: it all depends on who is running the show at the time (the show being the BBC policy department). someone comes in and likes Dr. Who: the series gets loads of promotion, events etc.. Michel grade came in and killed the series. It's like what happened on the sci-fi channel: a new person came in the programming department and she didn't like shows in 'spaceships' so Farscape got cancelled (even if it was the highest rated show on the network). Eventually she got replaced and the new person liked shows in 'spaceships' and Battlestar Galactica got the green light. Someone might come to the BBC and turn it into a gestapo seeking to sue the folks at Loose Cannon, then again someone might come in and ask them to make 'official' reconstructions for the beeb. You never know.

Just look at the *superb* work on Galaxy 4, where they filmed brand new model sequences just to get a few more seconds of moving chumblie. What the legal situation would be with a newly amatuer recorded recon of their property, Rassilon only knows. I'm sure that in general the BBC would prefer to use their own deptarment for recons like the Tenth Planet and Ice Warriors releases. Less sticky copyright issues. I'd hate it if all the fun things from the net vanished, like the excellent recon sites, transcripts and the ep trading. *growls at the Reign of Terror that is stuck pootling along at the occasional next-to-nothing dl rate* (Although I still maintain that those who can support the official releases should, especially if they really enjoy a download)
