Guest c4evap
I never heard of Ventrilo before so I Googled it. Interesting idea. They had the following warning on thier website: Ventrilo is subject to United States export controls. Ventrilo may not be downloaded or otherwise exported or re-exported: into (or to a national or resident of) Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan, Syria or any other country to which the United States has embargoed goods; or any organization or company on the United States Commerce Department's "Denied Parties List." By downloading or using Ventrilo, you are agreeing to the foregoing and all applicable export control laws. You are also warranting that you are not under the control of, located in, or a resident or national of any such country or on any such list. Wow. Does it contain some classified material or something? c4
GorunNova
Probably encryption... the US gov't clamps down on that.
Ulysses
Ventrillo is great, I use it when i am playing a clan match on call of duty. I think there is a small fee that has to be paid every 3 months. Deffo worth looking into, not to mention its dead easy to set up. heres a screen shot of what it looks like.

peraa
Skype is based on person-to-person chat but can be also used for conference chat Vent is actually something like IRC or some other channel(room) based chat - only conference chat

Ventrillo looks similar, but maybe it has other features. Dunno. I like Pendrake's idea though, sounds cool.

Pendrake
i know vent is voip and i would assume skype is as well. as far as i know, you can get a free server for vent but it has a very low limit to the ammount of people allowed on. **EDIT** Scratch that whole free vent server... they dont exist lol. But if we wanted to get one, it wouldnt be all that much. I would probably be able to chip in a small amount for a server.
GorunNova
I prefer text, myself ^^' Ah, well... Real time text versus forum-type text would be nice. Waitamin... this place has an IRC channel... Edit: ... and an easily accessible Java IRC client!
NiteShdw
I was just about to say, "What's wrong with the IRC channel?" :P

Erm I think you will find its not free, yeah its free to download but its not free to get a channel. I think our COD clan actually pays about 15 to 20 quid per quarter.
