i like both as well. i was just a 10 year old kid in the late 70's so nothing can compare to the awe- sparing effects and the feelings i got watching the old bsg but i do like the new bsg for its high quality acting and special effects coupled with that dark edgy feel make it the best tv show on now. That may be why Comcast, my cable TV company removed sci-fi from basic cable so new I don’t get sci-fi anymore the difference between basic cable and next package up is like 25 dollars more then I pay now. I just want pay it.

The two shows are very different - obviously, the premise is very similar but the execution is as night and day.

I personally enjoyed the original series on reruns as a kid but it was pretty much your standard campy sci-fi fare. You essentially had people that were on the brink of extinction but they always seemed so upbeat and spent most of their time blowing up about 100,000,000 cylons and getting home for tea.... and yes the cylons were pretty much just a random force of nature almost.

The new one is what sci-fi should be, human drama that just happens to be set in space, rather than something that relies on where it is.

The original series had it's flaws but overall was a much better show. The new series seems, at times, to be more concerned with proving just how different it is from the original than with providing a good storyline.

Now they are making Commander Cain not only a woman but an Admiral and Adama's superior! Hell, I'm surprised they didn't make Adama a gay Native American......or maybe it was just that the guy from The Village People wouldn't give up his outfit....

Even without the original series taken into account one thing is quite apparent from the little I have watched of the new series: it sucks! Not just the storyline, either: the lighting, the cinematography, much of the dialog, all much below expectation for something produced today. The casting director should be shot, too.

Overall, this show is even less watchable than the old Saturday-morning "Jason of Star Command", and less compelling in it's darkness than the movies "The Black Hole" and even "Outland".

The original series got cancelled after one season even though it did well, I enjoyed it then and I'm sure if they'd continued it'd been a success. Galactica:1980 was purely a kids program.

The new series is very good, and yes it is different from a space opera, but that's what makes it stand out from all the other sci-fi programs currently running.

I prefer the original series. It was good, felt more real to me than the new one. It's too stone like. And them replacing boomer and starbuck just sickened me. Too much girl power in the new BSG and although that's a step forward for women on tv, it's just too much for me. Create new characters, whatever, but they shouldn't have done that.

The old series' were enjoyable, but the new series is so different to anything else out there and is now my favourite Sci-fi show at the moment, due in part to the new series of Doctor Who being rather disappointing.

An amazing series that I hope won't end anytime soon.

I've finished watching the original BG a couple of weeks ago. I've wanted to watch it for a long time. Well OK some episodes were good but overall it's true that it was a kid's program. As for the acting, I wasn't sure sometimes if I was watching a bunch of bloopers stuck together. SFX, well it was the '70 so can't say a word on that except that they were always using the same models FX over and over again (Viper's, Galactica etc...). . Oh what about the use of a view screen projection as a background scenery, crap I've never seen that even on UFO or Space 1999? (2 shows that I like BTW). And the end, wait what end, too bad that the story was cut short without an end (exactly like S:99). But there we know why, no more $$$ to finish the show. As for the New BG, well this is a very good Sc-fi show to me. Acting is great, CGI FX are great (we do see sometimes the same CGI effects ). Yes it's true that they are putting a big focus on this lord thing (compared to the original). Overall, this is a great show to me.

The one line I remember from TOS was when Galactica finds another Battlestar run by Kirk Douglas, who comes in to attack a fleet of Cylon Fighters who are already attacking Galactica. One of the cylon pilots looks out it's side window and says in typical Cylon monotone 'What about the other Battlestar' to which the reply 'What other Battlestar' had me in stitches.

Ahh, it's always the simple things.......

Could you imagine the new series also finding another Battlestar? That would make for some fun!

Lukeyson

That was Loyd Bridges not Kirk Douglas.

In the new series the Galacitca runs into another Battlestar in Ep 10 of the 2nd season called "Pegasus"

I agree with most people in this forum that both the TOS and TNS are great. The orginal had it's better moments and as for it's effects they where top of the line for the times. Of course the new series will be better as far as effects but I believe they started with a better background story than the TOS. But all in all they are both good shows.

There were some good stories in TOS but it was always predictable that there would always a solution to the problem by the end of the episode as was standard practice. I used to watch TOS as an teenager in the early '80's & I thought is was the greatest thing on TV at the time.

TNS is the better series of all of them & I like it more then TOS as it more like our own post 9/11 days where you don't know who the enemy is & it is always someone you would least suspect.
