str82u
Star Wars always was my favorite in the broad sense of movies, but I think Trek has a more realistic feel to it for me and being a logical person it makes it more believeable too. A forum for just Star Wars may have been more appropriate while the new movies were still being produced, but that franchise isn't really moving right now either, so.... Beawulf
the saddest movie I have seen is actually an anime film. I was so chocked up at the end I couldnt talk. It is called "Grave of the Fireflies" from studio ghibli. It is set in a japanese town during world war 2 (doesnt focus on the war). the main character is a young kid, about 12 and his younger sister about 4, their mother dies during a bombing raid, and their father is off fighting. they go live with their aunt who is a bitch and ends up throwing them out. They go live under a bridge the brother tries to get food but noone will give them any because of the shortage. So they mainly eat bugs, his sister gets sick and he takes her to the doctor who says she needs food, but he wont give any. She ends up dying. and eventually he dies on the streets as well, their father also died, but they never found out. Was so completely depressing. I dont think I have seen any movie with an unhappy ending before. If you want a gut-wrencher I recommend it.
ZaphodiLe
neomaster, I almost completely share your list, besides the movies there I haven't watched. I really liked Butterfly Effect and Minority Report, as being recent movies. Equilibrium was great, also Gattaca.

KristianM
I agree with neomaster: Shawshank Redemption is a wonderfull movie, but I am surprised that nooene has mentioned Quentin Tarantino - Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are near the top of my list. As for Sci-Fi movies I would put 12 Monkeys and The Fifth Element on top.

Ulysses
I agree with neomaster: Shawshank Redemption is a wonderfull movie, but I am surprised that nooene has mentioned Quentin Tarantino - Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are near the top of my list. As for Sci-Fi movies I would put 12 Monkeys and The Fifth Element on top. wasnt so keen on 12 monkeys....but 5th element...now that was a great film and loved watching that. War of the Worlds i enjoyed but it wouldnt say it was a classic by a long way...kinda lost its self when they where stuck in the cellar and after then it seemed rushed, sadly i dont think tim robbins character was that clever...shame as i do like him as a actor

Moonstalker
The philedelphia experiment EDIT - my bad, this hsould be under cheesy B movies!!!! Somehow I've got to throw in the The Wizard of Oz as one of my all time favorites. But as to cheesy B movies: Buckaroo Banzai Big Trouble in Little China Battle Beyond the Stars (Hey - when you're a kid looking for anything sci-fi - this counted) Buck Rogers (70's movie version - before they turned it into a TV space hairdresser show) Oddly enough, these are all actually "B" movies...
