Yeah, Steveo is right - the DS9 mirror universe episodes felt like the writers had got wasted the night before and woke up with 24 hours to complete the script and so they just knocked out a generic mirror universe story.

Hilarious Voyager didn't use them really.

Well, if you think about it, Voyager wouldn't be in that situation in the mirror universe, because there were no federation starships to be pulled in by the Caretaker array. However, if you want an episode with "evil" Voyager, go with Living WItness. Definitely one of the best Star Trek episodes ever. (And, chronologically, the last Star Trek episode ever.)

- The Original Trek - Kirk crosses over
This is not entirely right: - In "mirror mirror" (TOS 2x4) (I assume you are referring to this one) Kirk' date=' McCoy, Uhura and Scotty do cross over[/quote']

I thought I just said that? You enjoy repeating people?

And yeah, I forgot DS9 skipped a season 5 in its "dark universe" arc. (And voyager, i've erased that trash from my mind.)

The DS9 alternate universe episodes were poor at best' date=' and always felt too much like a fall back for writers with no new story lines.[/quote']

I strongly disagree. While DS9 was doing boring, "Odo gets trapped in an elevator", the Dark Universe episodes provided some welcome excitement. At the time, many fans said DS9 should just quit, and rename itself "Terek Nor" exclusively.

Now at the end, like when Quark crossed over, it did get a bit hokey, but overall the Dark Universe had some great moments. Like Worf in command of a Klingon Dreadnaught while the Defiant pounds it to pieces!!! Or "Smiley" O'Brien's famous line: "Captain O'Brien. Captain Bashir. Captain Sisko.... we don't have any ships... but we have plenty of bloody captains!" Ha Ha!

You really need to watch DS9 in proper order, because there's a lot of continuity. That's especially true of the Dark Universe episodes.

I agree with theaveng - the DS9 alternate usiverse episodes were really good - though i thought the one where Quark crosses over was quite funny actually which is one of the good things about DS9 and one of the reasons Quark was added - and anyway - all of the other characters had had there turn in the mirror universe so Quark and Rom had to have a shot.

The mirror universe episodes in DS9 were like one of the little highlights of each season

I think what made Season 4 of Enterprise so appealing was the fact that they knew that they were getting cancelled. It kind of forced the writers to really think about what they were writing in a desperate attempt to get renewed or get picked up by another network. Hence, the mirror universe episode. I got chills in the opening credits. What made it so awesome is that it had never been done before; the theme redone and no Star Trek characters in the mirror universe. Simply, an independent story. But I don't think that this would work as a series. What makes it special is because it leaves us to think.

The only thing that makes me wonder about the mirror universe stuff is this. We know that each mirror episode dealt with the same mirror reality. But, remember from the TOS episode, it was stated that there are an infinite number of parallel universes. TNG "Parallels" also dealt with the idea of infinite quantum realities. Now, how did every single time there was a crossover, it always went to the same universe? The only thing I could think of to justify it is that the "mirror" universe is the polar quantum opposite of our Star Trek universe, so that could be the common denominator. Anywho, it's fun to think about!

Well, Kirk and co. did have an encounter with another alternate universe, but you are correct. It is odd that all these encounters happened with the same alternate universe. I can think of two possible explanations, though. In all but one encounter with the Mirror Universe, it was due to a quirk of the transporter technology. That could show that the Mirror Universe is the one most easily accessed via transporter. Of course, there is the other explanation I just thought of (bear in mind that this would be an explanation of events in the Star Trek world, and not an explanation of why the writers keep going back to the same universe, as that explanation is both obvious and pointless). That is, the Defiant was pulled through to that one particular alternate universe, which either somehow linked the two universes (what an oxymoron), or weakened the barrier between them, making further travel between the two almost inevitable.

No they didn't. They didn't know they were canceled until February... by which time they already had 15 episodes filmed, edited, and "in the can". Nice theory, but it ain't true. :-)

.

Why the same universe? Well for DS9, that was explained, "We recorded your signature, and were able to cross-over" or some similar techno-garbage. In other words, they had each other's phone number, so they always went to the *correct* universe and not some random one.

As for TOS & ENT, how do we know it was the same universe? It could have been similar, but not exactly the same.

(shrug) I don't worry about it too much. These episodes are just meant to be "for fun", not serious.

theaveg is right we don't know if any of the episodes were in the same universe except in DS9 where we can be pretty sure they were the the same as the stories were linked.

Well whoever wrote the episodes in in the final season of Enterprise did a better job than earlier however most series haven't had really good seasons until the 3rd of 4th season. TNG for one was lucky to go past it's first season as most stories were solid but not exceptional. Even really good episodes like Cogenitor on Enterprise don't make a season you need several good ones.

Season 4 was the best because in had the mirror universe episodes and several others like stormfront and the observer effect along with much more developed characters.

  • 2 weeks later...

Woow i go away for a few weeks and look what happens.. I'm so happy ta see al the post in the part..Although i don't agree with onr thing . i loved enterprise!! loved it.. it took a season and a half to get of the ground..just like DS9 And Voyager.. but it stayed true to form..and gave us more for our collective mythos.. from the first episode...when the kiligon is looking at the holographic representation of the home world.." I can see my house from here" right there i knew it was gonna be good..

And another thing now that they dont need Majels Voice anymore ..shes gonna die.. watch .. thats the way this lousy planet works..

RIP...Agent 86
