wahaha
Wahaha :D :D venting some steam? I've blown all the steam I can. Even written chiding letters to the President, Governor, and idiot congressmen who want to raise the speed limit for semis in this state. Taken from an excerpt at caranddriver, relating to the Autobahn and the statement I made in the post above, about that Merc. http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=4&article_id=3471 "But these distance cameras don't just record close driving -- sometimes accidents are taped. We watched a Mercedes driver on videotape taking a corner only to discover midway a thing called power-on oversteer. Next he learned about power-off oversteer -- all at 124 mph on a wet road -- before bouncing off the central barrier and sliding on his roof for 1800 feet. He finally barrel-rolled into the shoulder. Amazingly, he jumped out intact. And he hasn't lost his penchant for fast driving, either. Kiermeyr met him again just a few weeks ago -- in the aftermath of yet another accident." It helps to drive a Bavarian brawler like mein Audi. But it also takes driving skills. And that's something most Americans don't have either of. You can't call yourself the best driver, unless you're driving the best of cars. My car will greedily soak up the miles at triple digit speeds, and I would happily drive those speeds hehe, but not on American pavement.
theaveng
If someone says things that are interpreted as being sexist' date=' then people will refer to the speaker as being sexist or seeming to be sexist.[/quote'] They should attack the *idea*, not the person. i.e. Say, "I think your avatar is degrading to women," NOT "troy is sexist". There's simply no excuse to insult me or anybody else. We're adults here, not 2-yr-olds. BTW, I drove from Utah to Montana on I-15 at 120 miles an hour. That was a Dodge Avenger, american, so I guess you should shoot me. ;-) I've never driven the Autobahn, but I do know the american interestate can handle high-speed travel. For several years between ~1995 to ~1999 Montana's interstates had no speed limit. People used to drive to Montana just so they could test their sportscars at 100-150 miles an hour. As for 55 limits, I disagree. Time is more valuable than money. I don't want to waste my life sitting in a car. If driving 85 (like in Utah) reduces my drive time from 500 hours to 350 hours, I will do it. Money can be replaced. Time can not. We only get ~80 years & then we die. I don't want to waste that time sitting in a car at a slooooow 55 mph. troy

theaveng
Irrelevant. My point was that life is finite, and I don't want to waste my limited time walking 5 hours just to get to work. That's why we have cars... to shorten commutes from 5 hours to ~1/2 hour, and thereby save irreplaceable time. troy
Foil
We're getting a tad off topic here but I'll add my opinion to the related discussion: The fast pace of todays world seems to be what is causing the lack of time in our daily lives. Or we are instilling time in TV and other things which makes us more rushed in our work lives (because we want more time for TV and entertainment we live off fast food and drive cars in a manner that we think will get us places faster). The days before the Jet Set life may have been harder but I think it was easier on our psyches in that we weren't as depressed when we were working or not being entertained. I'm a major participant in our current world so I am being kind of hippocritical here; however, I can't help feeling that I would have been more at peace in a world without TV's, Computers, and Fast Cars. theaveng
It's worse when they are in the left lane. The left lane is supposed to be the "passing only" lane in Pennsylvania & New Jersey. Don't these people realize they can get arrested? In fact, I saw it happen. A cop in NJ was traveling rapidly... and a guy was in the left lane of the turnpike (the right lane was open and clear). The cop arrested him right then & there. troy
Moonstalker
Gear Grinding 101 "Hang up and drive!" "Would you repeat your order? I was talking to my boyfriend" "If you don't give, you're ...." "Hello, I'm calling from ..." "This is pre-owned, not used" And my favorite - "I'm underpaid" - I've yet to meet anyone who willingly admits that they're overpaid.
