austinsqueak
Now it seems to me everyother episode of Startrek has a countdown to a lethal dose of radiation- not just one kind, but many different varieties all coined by the wonderfully creative authors(I dont know how the radiation types differ in effect) While it's true that they avoid dying, mostly, a NEAR lethal dose of radiation is nothing to scofe at(I SEE U SCOFING! STOPATONCE). If here in our timeframe(universe?) we were exposed in such a manner those of us choosing procreation would find a few suprises with our mutant babies, plus hair loss and who knows what else. Am i just being silly? Should I assume that there is some sort of genetic treatment? Never any disabled ppl really. Ofc st is just fiction but this question is nagging at me. GhostShadow
yea, well star trek takes place in 23-24 century, so i bet that they would detect any mutation, geneticaly alter it and fix it. mabe....
NeverMalchik
Like the Doctor in Voyager. He corrected the spinial deviation of Tores and Paris baby, before she was even born... maybe I could have my hair back hahahahaha!
queenhank
Well, it seems likely that the "lethal" doses of radiation are just those amounts which cause too much damage to be fixed. I mean, they can innoculate against radiation, and so I would assume they have ways of dealing with exposure to even very high amounts of radiation. Perhaps lethal, for them, just means, "You'll die before we can fix you.".
angree
you can even reverse the 'dna rewriting' process even if there is no human dna left, only if it is in the end of episode ;). You can do anything, that helps to make a happy ending and it is impossible to do anything that would solve problem to quickly (in the middle of the ep ;p)

I spose this should be in the earliest memory of ST thread
queenhank
That's why there should, at some point, be an episode where something goes wrong, and the crew comes up with all these complex explanations for why it's happening - invisible creatures, unknown forms of radiation, sentient holograms, etc. - but none of their solutions work, so they keep coming up with crazier and crazier explanations, until, at the very end of the episode, they realize that it was just a faulty power relay or something simple like that.. Tenebrae
In star trek, people receive lethal doses of radiation all the time - fortunately, that's nothing to worry about, it'll clear up by itself (number of times that the crew of Enterprise were exposed to fatal radiation - about 500)
