Questions about 'SPAM'

Nite used to be the only moderator...... After that came Elderbear, the god of moderatingn ;). Never had problems always saw cool threads that made me laugh even the stupid ones.... Now I see more and more moderator announcements telling us what to do and what to post. Allthought I have faith in this community and it's ability to have decent conversations, the moderators seem to have lost this faith..... Have you ever seen an spammer made it to warrant officer????? No!!!! Therefore it is not neccesary to lock topics and say what is and is not spam...

Just give a small (not with read letters and autority) that the thraed in question is a bit stupid..... (Untill the real spammers come, then you may use your Tank :p)

Obviously - as the forum grows and grows - there needs to be more moderators (hint hint, nudge nudge) moderating the different parts of the forum - you'd need a one moderator for the MosEisley section at least!!! - btw - Tetsuoshima - when it says starfleet security in your member name - does that mean you have moderator privilages over the whole forum?

I don't think any of the mods wants to push it as far as you guys appearently now think they want to...

Ten Forward is still the primary forum for non-sci-fi or general sc-fi related issues.

MosEisley was simply created for 'silly' topics or topics that hold to much spam or irrelevant conversation.

Replying to a post is obviously not spam, however, if that is all a certain user does, replying to topics, saying things like: "I agree." And nothing else to further the discussion, that might be interpretted as SPAM. But the user in question would really have to be pushing it then. Ordinarily, just replying to a topic is good, even more so, it is 'wanted/required'. It would really be a dead place over here if people stopped replying to one another... :)

The line that is drawn, might differ slightly between te mods, some may be stricter, some may be more lenient... Which is to be expected, since mods are humanoid, after all... :)

The mods are NOT here to proceed in a gestapo-like fashion, they are just here to make certain things don't get out of control.

I think we can all see what a SPAM-thread is and what a spamming-spree is. This sub-forum is here for such topics, but if it gets out of control, the topic will be locked/deleted and possibly the post-count deducted from the involved users.

This sub-forum is also here for topics that hold no meaning-full conversations, but are just fun once in a while...

You are still free to proceed as you want on the forum (appart from the forum rules), but there will be spam-checks. From the past you can clearly find, what spam is. Just because a topic was moved to this sub-forum doesn't mean it's spam!

Ok thanks for your reply...

Now i understand what is required.

So guys if we want to have a laugh then this is the only place that is allowed!! :p

No, not exactly. I believe Nite is the only one with full moderation access (not entirely sure). If you want to know who is moderating what, I'll see if I can make a list for you.

Well, if you have something funny to say about Dr. Who or StarTrek or BSG or Stargate or sci-fi in general (and it is not totally irrelevant), you can still say it it those forums also...

But if you want to have fun with non-sci-fi related things, it might be best to post them here (= Mos Eisley Spaceport).

As said, we don't want to restrict you (too much), just keep it at least a little bit orderly... :)

Appearently the best way to do that was create a specific sub-forum for this kind of topic...

Now! Go and have fun, you guys!! :D

Yes that's quite clear now...

Thanks for sorting that one out.

Do you mind if I step in and let me set things straight so there isn't any confusion?

Spam: I consider 'spam' to be a post contain absolutely no information at all, such as a random letter(s), single words, or repeated postings designed simply to inflate post count without contributing even 1 iota of information

Posting "Restrictions": While some of you are complaining that some posting restrictions have been imposed, the Posting Rules have not changed. I simply created a sub-forum to which silly and nonsensical topics can be moved in order to maintain some sort of order (and dignity) in Ten Forward.

Polls: I did make one change: Polls are no longer allowed in Ten Forward, but ARE allowed in all the sub-forums, including Mos Eisley. This is due to the fact that 100% of polls in Ten Forward were 'silly' in nature.

In other words, you can be all means continue to be silly, post random polls, and do whatever it is that you love doing, as long as you continue to do so in the forums that are appropriate for that behavior.

Some people don't like the silliness, so I believe that by separating out the silly topics from the rest, that both those that want them and those that don't will be happy.

Cool I won a free Ipod I wonder were that link will take me...

Nite:

Very much thnx for the clarification, It seems that this is indeed the best solution. Now people finally can make silly topics were noone will bother them.... and most important were they will not bother anyone.

i.e. gratuitous booby posts won't be accepted' date=' even in this distant port ^^[/quote']

and what are you gonna do about it?

run to a moderator and cry?

This would be classed as SPAM....but i don't care because i'm unhappy with the restrictions - some offtopic-ness is good

Edit: - for a long time i thought General Lee was a moderator - you too Maverick

thanks man, but i just been around for a while. as much as i love this forum im not sure i have the time to take on the responsability of being a mod.

as for the above post, the issue has been dealt with and i dont really wanna hear someone banging on about it forever cos they cant think of anything better to say.

additionally as we're all apparently grown ups a grown up attitude would be aqcceptable. ie a pm to express dissatisfaction not repeated comments which really serve no purpose and do not solve problems

if im honest i think the forum is suffering a little from being hidden and having new blood with new ideas to discuss

laters all

I think you are right Mav..

I have been here for some time now but only started posting a few weeks ago!

A lot has changed in those few weeks!!!

That's why i started this thread..

I wanted to see what other people thought of the way things were going.

I also must just point out what nite has said on the matter See above text!

Right on Nite... In a silly world some sanity at last!!
