I went to see this last week - Had to track it down as none of my 3 closest local cinemas were still carrying it.

Took a friend. I've seen the series, but he hadn't. I have to say we both enjoyed it - and he seemed to get a lot of the humour. Not having seen the series didn't seem to be a problem.

I'm pleased that the storyline behind River has been exposed (though I don't think it's the end of her problems. No government in their right minds would knowingly leave a killing machine like River in the hands of a band of petty criminals - plus, who's to say that the history of Miranda is the only secret she's picked up along the way...)

Book is still an enigma. I can't see him coming back (though I could see them bringing a moral voice to the crew from Inara - that would be a cynical twist if the crew's moral compass was the "companion")

I'd love to know more about Book. It would be fairly easy to do an episode where an old friend of Book's is in trouble, and the only people he can think to call on is Mal and his crew.

I thought Firefly was fantastic, and although I'd love to see more, I could cope if Serenity was to be the "close" of the story. At least it brought the main story arc to a conclusion.

I hate the fact that so many of the series I enjoy best are cut down mercilessly in their prime (Firefly, Tru Calling, Dark Angel, Enterprise, even wonderfalls - ok not scifi as such)

Anyway - at least the BBC have agreed at least another 2 series of Doctor who :)

Anxiously awaiting the restart of SG1/Atlantis/BSG/Doctor Who/24

I thought it was a good film, though really if you'd not seen the series first it might be more puzzling since there's a fair few assumptions.

Book wasn't in it much, I guess this is because Ron Glass wasn't initially interested in doing the film (I believe)

Rumours surface about Serenity sequel airing on Sci Fi Channel

From Ign.com - By Webmaster - 2005-12-2

Exclusive: A Serenity Sequel?

This one’s for the Browncoats.

December 1, 2005 - IGN FilmForce has heard that, although it was very disappointed in the poor boxoffice showing for Serenity, Universal may not have retired Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his renegade crew just yet.

Sources said that, given the strong sales of the TV series Firefly on DVD, Universal is planning a sequel film to Serenity that will be produced with and to broadcast premiere on the Sci Fi Channel, which is part of the NBC Universal family.

The project is said to be a lower budget undertaking streamlined for the small-screen.

IGN FilmForce checked with Joss Whedon’s camp who denied the claim; Universal did not comment.

Time will tell if this rumor pans out.

I'm not holding my breath, but I could live with a made for TV movie, especially one done by the Sci-Fi channel. While I loved the big screen Serenity, I preferred the small screen Firefly. TV movies might be the perfect marriage of the two. If the production value is as good as other SciFi Channel films like Earthsea, Dune, & Children of Dune I'd be quite happy.

First seen the series, now seen the movie...

I have to say: the movie is quite a bit different from the series, a lot less humor and a lot more action... Don't know for sure if I find that trade a good thing... I think they might have done it to make it more acceptable for a greater crowd, it being a movie and all...

Exactly the same here. But let's face it: We were just the secondary target group in this case. Good movie anyway, but not as uplifting as the series in terms of friendship and looseness. Basically the same effect "Nemesis" had on me as a TNG-fan.

now that I've seen the film twice ( only - I've ordered the DVD ) and watched firefly - I don't understand how I didn't watch the show - I want more!

one posibility is to do more "back" episodes - set before the end of the film and the death of wash & book. afterall, the film begins before the series and ends after it.

I would _really_ like to more about the mystery surrounding book. that's another opportunity to make episodes or a film in the same story line

A good movie with a good story. :)

I couldn't stop wondering about the obvious ending...

Why? To be continued? Sell DVDs? What?

I didn't really think it was the obvious ending, i took the whole reaver origin to be exactly what everyone thought it was, i mean it wasn't suprising that it was a side-effect of this whole government thing, but i think the whole point of that was it wasn't supposed to seem suprising but realistic and a possibility. I really liked the ending sort of wrapped everything up, so if there was nothing to come after it would conclude the series.

I agree with you.

It's a good ending. They left all the options open, for some reason...

An optimist would say: Coming soon, Serenity 2.

A pessimist would say = They're keeping it "alive" to sell merchandise.

A rationalist = They don't have any plans, yet.
