transition from TMP to TNG

When did Starfleet adopt the season 1 TNG uniforms? I know that Jack Crusher had the old TMP uniform before he died in 2354. In the early TNG episode with the Stargazer it was clear that the season 1 uniforms had been adopted when the Stargazer was destroyed in 2355. Does this mean that Crusher died just before the adoption of the 'new' uniforms?

Also, in that same episode with the Stargazer it was clear that the TMP or STIV interior ship design was still in use. Picard seemed to have some degree of familiarity with the old Constitution Class in the episode with Scotty. Does this mean that Picard's old command was a runoff of the TMP ships?

TMP = The Motion Picture(s), presumably.

Well, it seems you've not only answered your own question regarding the uniforms, but pinpointed pretty much the exact time when Starfleet adopted the new uniforms. Between 2354 and 2355.

I would imagine that the Enterprise D was a sort of culmination of all the new technologies available at the time, and so, after it was built, all other ships followed its basic design scheme, thus ending the sorts of ship designs we saw in the movies. Picard's familiarity with Constitution class ships is likely from spending a lot of time studying them, and not actually spending time in similar ships.

Wow, that certainly is well studied, frustrating and obscure all at once. I can't see how anyone could go from that leap from uniform to uniform, the movies were just a nice overlay perhaps with the burdon of accepting formality that was not only misplaced but unneccessary.

Like I give a Hoot.....

EDITED MY POOR PUNCTUATION

Well I don´t think that there is a logical explanation. But think about it from the perspective of an regisseur or a producer. They probably showed Jack in the old uniforms to give the inescapable impression that what has happened is n the past...

Maybe it is just that... a means to an end

and by the way @Ghost: Nice Quote!

I always liked Garak, our dear spie...

Starfleet stuck with the movie uniforms (with only minor alterations) for a long time because they had pissed off every clothing designer in the federation by adopting at least 3 different uniform styles in 5 years (Where No Man Has Gone Before, The rest of TOS and TMP). The replacing of the uniform from TMP with the IMO better design for Kahn was necessitated by the fact that every body looked like a complete idiot walking around in their pajamas.
