BGJester
I've just finished watching the whole of the TNG series on DVD ... great stuff and I enjoyed it very much ... So, where to go now, my problem seems to be : ToS - is probably really dated by now Enterprise - I saw a few episodes and couldn't stick it Voyager - Saw the first 3-4 episodes and really can't stick Janeway's voice. DS9 - Saw the whole of series one and it was 'kinda' ok So, should I persevere with Voyager, give DS9 (or Enterprise for that matter) another go ... or - shock - should I try something I've never watched before (Farscape, Millenium, Andromeda, etc) Help !! Wazer
Go for DS9 I have been watching it again and it continues to get better from series one though you need to reach at least series 3 when it hits the sweet spot about the time of the arrival of the Defiant into the series. From series 4 onwards there is an undertone of war and of course Worf joins which you should enjoy having seen TNG. Watch series 2 because the characters continue to build and so much of the series builds around this and the first series. Some episodes like Shadowplay are very TNG like. The Marquis 2 parter and the Jem'Hadar final episode of that series really help explain the major enemies of the entire series. If you don't like the series by the end of series 3 you should definately switch to something else even if episodes 1 + 2 of Series 4 (Way of the Warrior) are some of the best DS9 episodes made. Voyager is a hard one I disliked Janeway at the start but I perservered and I liked most of the series though I don't have the series on DVD (except the last 10 episodes) so I can't remember what to recomend. grillguy85
It's all good, but if you're not into watching more trek at the moment, I highly recommend Farscape. However, I don't understand what you don't like about Enterprise. Enterprise and Farscape was just about all I watched last year, or early this year, I don't know it's all a blur, but, yeah. If not Enterprise, Farscape.
BGJester
Thanks both ... I'll probably try DS9 again. I think the thing that I disliked most about Enterprise was the casting of Scott Bakula in the roll as captain. I watched so many episodes of Quantam Leap, that I can't stop thinking of him as Sam Beckett :( Although, I have been thinking about taking a peak at Farscape which seems to come quite highly rated
Tenebrae
From my point of view, after Picard it was very much a downward spiral. Sisko was OK but he was pretty much either wooden or shouting - one gets the impression that at some point in his career, he started equating loud with dramatic. Janeway, well - I never liked her, the character or the actor. To me it was just a case of "ok, we want to do a woman captain! So let's make her strong! And independent!" Which results in her just doing EVERYTHING. Anyway, I appreciate she's a love/hate character. Archer... Bakula was kind of annoying but I think he was stuck with a bad character. Archer is supposed to be moral but he just flicks those morals on and off and so on. As to the shows... DS9 season one is very much bland and generic, season 2 is slightly better but not much - until the last episode. Season 3 is when it actually gets started and season 4-5 are (for me) where it peaks, although I feel that after the start of season 6 it got far too cheesy. Voyager - well, I'm no fan of the show but I've seen most of it. The appearance of the Borg and 7 of 9 saved the show from cancellation - ah fanboy, though art more shallow than a puddle on a hot summers day - so, that should be an indication of when it improves but I can't honestly say that Voyager has good areas - just good episodes. Enterprise... The first 2 seasons are utterly missable, the third is a slight improvement but the parallels to the war on terror are almost painful at times and the Xindi are just poor bad guys. Season 4, after the opener has 2 miniarcs worth watchin - the augments (with brent spiner) and the evil universe. The other episodes are ok... and try to explain away some of the central continuity errors between TOS and TNG and aren't bad. If you're looking outside of Trek, SG-1 is always enjoyable. Atlantis has found its feet well. The new BSG is probably the best sci-fi in the past decade. Farscape is good if you're ready for something with more emphasis on characters and relationships than this weeks spacial anamoly/holodeck malfunction. Some people seem to bleed joy over Firefly (not I). Andromeda... I've only watched a few episodes of that but it never really impressed me. GhostShadow
I would give DS9 another go. The dominion war is awsome. if you are looking for a cool eps of DS9 try "the Die is cast" in season 3. The Tal Shiar and Obsidean order make a fleet to attk the Founders home world. I liked it a lot. Also give voyager another go too. The first season sucked but once they meet cool races like the hirogen and Borg, its all good ;)
bbbb
Voyager wasn't any good until Basics Part I. Then it gets better in seasons three and four.
IheartST
I'm a huge Voyager fan so I'd say that but DS9 is great also.
ifilmco
TNG was quite simply the best of the ST series ever done - TOS premiered it but was a little too soon to pull off some of the concepts (visually at least), and DS9 was good but I don't think ever reached the high point that TNG did. Beawulf
I think the thing that I disliked most about Enterprise was the casting of Scott Bakula in the roll as captain. I watched so many episodes of Quantam Leap' date=' that I can't stop thinking of him as Sam Beckett :([/quote'] I was the same, but after a while I got past it and really enjoyed the show, especially when they started getting into the story arcs. I recommend sticking with it if the sam beckett connection is what is turning you off it.
omgdave
'The Expanse' marked a shift up in Enterprise, might be worth a shot. It Faded again after that storyline completed. I agree, Scot Bakula was a bad choice. Who would you liked to have seen instead? I think Ben Browder would have made that show a winner, but hes an easy choice really :) If you're looking for something different Threshold and Surface have started recently. Both are light sci-fi shows. Surface has been quite entertaining till now (ep6). Threshold started well with a Quatarmass & the Pit theme but hasnt really done anything interesting yet. CrazyMan
If you are looking for a good show out side the star trek space I would say try surface. But DS9 does pick up and gets much better in later EP.... :cyclops:
Annika
Surface is really boring... I stopped watching halfway ep 2 because I was tired of waiting for some action that probably never came. Try The 4400, thats really good!
