magestorm
I downloaded and watched it. It was acceptable, insofar as it did have some good parts. But, they based the movie off of Doom 3, not Doom. And yes, they removed the part where they fight off the demons from Hell, and went with the lame turkey, genetic mutation. Personally, the only game that got made into a movie that was excellent was the Resident Evil set, specifically because they didn't even try to go with the game storyline, but something that believably could go on on the side of it. Also, being a huge zombie fan, I happened to find the slower moving flesh eaters a welcome deal, instead of hyperactive 2 year olds on a sugar rush. I have found that movie to game and game to movie usually goes lame duck when they try to follow the source material too closely. Land of the Dead is a good example. They didn't even bother trying to make the movie into the game with this thinking, but instead went as a side story, based upon the events in the movie. That is when you see good conversion, in either direction. But, straying too far can just as easily kill it, as Doom did. Pros: Some good scenes, the BFG-9000, and the handicapped wheelchair guy Cons: Removed the whole motivation for the events, going with random mutation, stupid mistakes that no "special ops" trooper would make, and The Rock. Tenebrae
I just never understand why they feel the need to change things purely for the sake of change? What would have been wrong with having opened the gate to hell and people getting possessed? At least then it wouldn't have been a rerun of Resident Evil. rovaran
There are a lot of reactions on a videogame made movie discussion. But let us also take a look the other way around. Are there ANY good movie/tv-series made video game games? I only know a few myself (like harry potter, the first game and no I'm not 12 ;)) And I found that it really sucked. But does anyone know a game that is something like the movie and is at least a bit playable?
Tenebrae
Hollywood likes to be fair - film to game is a lame as game to film.

vystral
The slogan from the preview says everything: "If it breathes, kill it." I don't know who comes up with this filth, but they deserve to be fired...with extreme prejudice. "If it sucks, don't buy it."
GorunNova
I'd watch the Doom movie, but unfortunately, it looks like they're not making one... ;)
meateater
To quote the man: "Can you smell what the rock is cooking?" Fankly Mr Rock Ive smelt what your cooking in the movie business and smells not unlike a dogs dinner. I watched "Doom" and I resent your comment. I only feed my dog top-quality sh**. ratboy
Here's my review- Doom- Unrated Edition Loosly based on the trilogy of ID Soft games, Doom's core story centers around killing monsters. However, gone is the interesting storyline from the games. Gone are the scary moments that make you jump in you seat. They are replaced by a boring, predictable plot and wooden acting. With one of it's stars being The Rock, I wasn't expecting Shakespeare, but please! I was especially disappointed in Karl Urban, whom I've seen and liked in other minor roles. Things that they did transfer over from the games, didn't work so well. It was very dark and shadowy. Instead building suspense, it just makes it hard to see what's happening. And the first person perspective scene got old after a couple of minutes. The extras were pretty interesting though. There's the standard behind the scenes stuff, but there's also a retrospective on the Doom game trilogy that was pretty interesting. DVD - 2 out of 5 EXTRAS - 3 out of
GlaC
For a game to movie film, i thought it wasn't that bad... But thats only because i expected worse... Only the ending lived up to those expectations.. (of being really shite :P)
Tenebrae
The Rock isn't evil - just the most electrifying performer in sports entertainment!

Jounin
I was incredibly disappointed by this. The effects were cool and it never lacked in action, but the story line was tenuous, and the character development was pure crap.
