daffydk
http://www.ece.ucdavis.edu/~mvrojo/entratings.htm IF you look at theRatings of this show You will quickly realize what happenned. They started with over 12 million viewers. And in fact I was one of them back when it started. But somehow I just didnt find enterprise appealing to stay tuned. It shed people over the season and even more people. By the 3rd season it was too late. The 3+ million viewers who had liked enterprise all of a sudden found themselves within a completely different star trek... the xindi arc that run for a whole season. So obviously some of those fans were further shed. And although they are doing a better job now, they screwed up big time with "Daedalus" which openned the second half of the season. They lost ALOT of viewers. Whoever is doing enterprise should have known not to put a crapy episode at a time when lots of fans are expecting a good episode after they havent had anything for weeks. Only the a Brand New series with new actors wil make star trek back to where TNG was. More than 15 million viewres for 7 seasons!!!
VonHelton
They started with over 12 million viewers. Enterprise was the top running show on UPN.......Hands down. So if those ratings are supposed to be "bad", why didn't UPN cancel a bunch of their other shows before they cancelled Enterprise? ......I'll tell you why. Because those other shows, even though they didn't get as high a rating, were what Dawn Osteroff wanted. Enterprise, however, didn't fit into her "new vision" for UPN. :stare:
zgamesforu
exactly, it needs to be in more capable hands, like sci-fi, who keeps stargate even though they have just 1.3 million viewers!!!!

They probably have contracts with actors and costume designers, etc that were based on income from 6-12 million viewrs. Sure a series can survive with just 1 million viewers but only if it costs very little to make. Rmember the advertisers pay based on viewer numbers.. Like in superbowl, each 30 second add costs 2.4million dollars. but thats becuase they have over 100 million viewers.. In my opinion most of the costs of enterprise is due to actor's salaries + costume + graphics. If they could just film Enterprise on Earth with few aliens, it would keep costs down.. but it would also lose its appeal i guess...

Guest Guest
In my opinion most of the costs of enterprise is due to actor's salaries + costume + graphics. It's sets, graphics, salaries and film processing, etc. One of the reasons ST has always been such a great series (since TNG) is the outstanding production values. It's not Star Trek anymore if it becomes some cheapo SG-1 or Babylon 5 garden variety sci-fi. If they could just film Enterprise on Earth with few aliens, it would keep costs down.. but it would also lose its appeal i guess... Sure.. we can have a Dr.Quinn type drama with Zefram Cochrane strugging to overcome technical limitations and small-minded townfolk (and his drunkeness) and create a working warp drive. On the other hand, I think Neilson Ratings are a crock of crap.
Pall
I agree completely on "Daedalus" sinking the ship. What were they thinking using this to start off a new year? Then they come back with a great episode, hope it is not too late!

I always thought that was stupid to have a drunken zefram cochran build a warp drive rather than a genius human like Dr. Sung who built Data. But neverthless, First contact was a good movie.
