Tenebrae
I think that some shows CAN take time to get their legs... TNG's season one certainly bore precious little relationship to it's season seven... although I would hardly say that it was ever rubbish. I just think that - and I've said it plenty of times - Berman and Braga thought to themselves that they had removed what proved to be the greatest stumbling block - and I think that through TNG, DS9 and most notably VOY it got successively worse - treknobabble that it would be all smooth sailing. Of course what Berman seems to have forgotten as soon as he was in charge was that it's not new locales or the anomaly of the week that makes the show, it's about characters that people can relate to, sympathise for or admire. I know some people will disagree that was true of Voyager but I think most would agree that it was true in Enterprise. I mean it pretty much goes: Trip: Southern T'Pol: Cat-suit Hoshi: Asian Malcolm: Tight-lipped Brit Archer: [depends whether morality is turned on or off] Flox: Funny face... Mayweather: ? They tried to have the whole temporal cold war thing - now that might have been pretty cool if it wasn't for the fact that it was rather unlikely... Daniels wants to preserve the timeline, so just go and tell someone who is of TOTAL importance to the timeline pretty much what he has to do and repeatedly use him on missions... and of course not have it worked out so at the end it's all concluded in a rather weak two parter and we don't actually find out who the mystery baddie was... Then of course we had the war on terror that was season 3... where we find Archer's morality can flip on and off. 4-3-2-1 is how I'd rate the show. GorunNova
I liked the temporal cold war, and had to chuckle at the dimensionally transcendental ship they stumbled across in the middle of the series (for obvious reasons ;)). The moment the Xindi showed up, however, it was as if the whole series -changed-... I'm only part of the way through Season 3, so I'm not sure... but has the temporal cold war thing been derailed completely, or is this attack part of it? Don't answer that! :D ... still, I have noticed a drop in quality so far, with some of the chars becoming hollow shells of themselves or undergoing radical personality changes (i.e. Archer!!). Tenebrae
They essentially forget the Temporal Cold War for all of season 3... the episode with the time ship was pretty cool but overall the whole thing felt like they just went "oh, how about that Temporal Cold War - it's either that or have Cardassians"
TFMF
Well the Temporal Cold was was one of the main parts of the series - especially near the end - the Aliens that were influencing the Counsil of the Xindi were apart of that war
str82u
I'm a big fan of the show, though I have taken a break until now (I think I'll start from scratch and watch from the beginning again) As far as ranking the seasons, I definately think 3 was the best, every week usually had something edge-of-your-seat, but gave us a good story with the eventual cliff hanger or lead in for next week. WHO MISSED THE FINAL EPISODE "ZERO HOUR"? Not me! I had the VCR loaded, kids out of the house and my girlfriend on Mute. As a matter of fact, I made sure I was off on Enterprise night for the last 5 eps and everything got recorded on the DVR at work. Anyway, fanaticism aside, I don't know how much was inspired by 9/11, That was nearly 2 years prior to Season 2 finale "The Expanse" (aired 5/21/03 in US) and it didn't even occur to me, but I'm thick about somethings. AS far as the way Archer ,and much of the crew, behaved during this season, we all understand that this crew is the FIRST to be out that far, away from home and learning how to deal along the way. Up to that point, Archer was famous for saying "Hi, we're from Earth, you know Earth, on the edge of the Milky Way, right here, Let me give you a map..." or something like that. Everyone got the benefit of the doubt, and the guy he stuck stuck in the airlock, well, I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the whole season, more particularly Season 4 Episode 3 "Home" where it really comes out of Archer. Wow, I could write a freakin thesis on this crap... Then again there are others as passionate about thier favorites too. The only thing I find dissapointing is that we have never heard of this Race, Xindi, in any other Trek series, there's no connection, but boy it sure was original.
