Btw' date=' China was saying they are going to go it alone and develop their own space station. That would be interesting.[/quote']

Interesting yes, but it pisses me off.......!!

In space, there should not be any difference. If you're human, then you qualify. Space should be a place of mutual co-operation. Leave the politics on Earth!

Bush put so much into military expenditures that he left NASA without any money. NASA builds things that trickle down to us, like computers and the integrated circuit. The military gives nothing to the practical needs of people and just blows things up.

That's a good 1 bbbb. When has nasa built a computer or a circut board.. Keep up the good jokes.

Also use the edit for postings please. Unless you're quoting. There is no need to double post.

As much as it pains me to say it, Nazi Germany's work with rocketry eventually led to the rockets we use to get into space.

:stare:

Yeah all the nazi rocketscientist were offered a job :stare: instead of being shot for war crimes

I know.....

But, that's done & over. Let's try to think of better things.

True...... btw Germany is a great country.... I go there at least 3 to 4 times a year.

Happens to the best of us.

The USA is not exempt, even.........

George Washington could've declared himself king, and not many would've complained at all.

Abe Lincoln could've set himself up as Chancelor, just as Hitler did, but he chose not to.

Sometimes evil is easy to see, sometimes it isn't. Ergo, we must be wise as serpents & harmless as doves.

:)

EDIT: Typo.

I think we could get back by 2020 or just a few years more.

its called Burt Rutan and his billion dollar financer Paul Allen.

I agree, we could get there & be back already if it were up to them!

......The problem is that much of spaceflight is still under NASA's control. By the time we get things set up for private enterprise, precious time has been lost.

We need to get those mirrors to Mars now!!

What purpose would it serve to build on the moon? The 10s of billions in cost would be better spent going to & building on mars. We've been on that worthless piece of rock many times. It was good for that space race bs but is useless to continue.

The Moon would make a great shipyard for spaceships to be built.

.......Not much gravity to fight against, and the spaceships themselves could take off with less fuel used.

:D

think we can make it to mars by 2200? an hour to watch telly before bed

As far as I know, it only takes 7 years to fly to Mars.

The hard part is building the ship, figuring out where to build it, gathering the proper supplies, etc.

...and then figuring out a way to stock it with enough fuel and supplies to make that 7 year trip. Oh, and if there's time, a way to get back.

It'll be easier to come back.......Less fuel for takeoff.

We can store enough Helium 3 when we dock at the Moon for the return trip.

Of course, I won't be returning to Earth. Way too much to do......

Build buildings, establish greenhouses, work on terraforming, establishing a Constitution, a Congress, infrastructure, etc.

If I get all of that done & a ship is available, I'm going exploring.

.......I've always wanted to see what Saturn looks like up close.

:D

It takes 6 months' date=' not 7 years lol.[/quote']

Wrong on both counts........

It takes 9 months to fly the shortest distance to Mars.

http://www.astronomycafe.net/qadir/q2811.html

Unfortunately, it would take a minimum of 6 years to get all of the supplies into orbit around the Earth and stored on the ship (hopefully already built & waiting in Earth orbit) before heading out to Mars.

......If we factor in the building of the ship, we're looking at 12 years, minimum.

NASA is very slow when it comes to doing things.

:(

.....On the bright side, the return trip will only be 10 months.

9 months for the trip, 1 month to prepare.
