In 69 the VERY BEST engineers coming out of college went to NASA for top dollar, today they can't pay #### compared to Boeing or McDonnel Douglass.

If the public interest was focused on space travel and not Video games NASA would HAVE the budget. But when software engineers make a lot more working for EAgames and Nintendo, it's no wonder we're still on this planet. Hell, it's a wonder some people leave the living room....

hey, if i didnt have to work, and take a piss, i would never leave the living room! ;)

We spend more money on pizza than we do space exploration......

Does that give you any indication?

:stare:

we spend more money on toilet paper than on space :-)

lol

Not quite. Sales for toilet paper world wide reached more than 3.5 billion dollars in 1995. (Only stats I could find) B)

NASA was created to be NON military. That's why it was formed/seperated from the Air Force. If plans are made to "colonize" the moon' date=' I think that should be a joint effort between countries, and not done for strategic military reasons![/quote']

I'm well aware of NASA's origins.

......I don't want ANY govt institution involved, peaceful or otherwise. To be frank, I'm tired of waiting.

I enjoy watching Star Trek, but to honest, I'd much rather BE on a "Star Trek" of my own!

The only way that space exploration will proceed in a nominally democratic nation is if the people insist on it. The political will isn't there right now. Don't know what it will be in five or ten years. I expect' date=' that like the Easter Islanders, we may live so unsustainably for so long that we will end up trapped on this planet, without the resources to save ourselves or to migrate.[/quote']

May I remind you that it only takes 1 medium sized asteroid to extinguish all life on Earth?

......And that it theoretically could happen at any time?

They are IDIOTS and MORONS, plain and simple. Look at all the shuttle disasters. They couldn't fix a ham sandwhich.

These are the people who have to ask the PUBLIC for suggestions on a launch platform and design improvements!

I would have suggested they build a maglev launch platform, but hey, if they're so smart why didn't they think of it. I even thought there was a roller coaster that was maglev. Not to mention that in a vacuum, a maglev propelled object can reach ridiculous speeds.

Go to NASA's site and look at their mission roadmap for 2000-2019.

Oh be still my heart! I'm going to know the exact longitude & latitude of a Moon Crater!

I don't get how anybody who DOESN'T work there can call NASA a bunch of idiots.

Well now you've met one. The money spent on probes could've given us a colony on Mars. Had I been taken even MILDLY serious, we'd be exploring the Galaxy by now.

I'd be in favor of something being established like the "Civilian Space Corps" like a research foundation basically around the X-prize concept...Some kind of private foundation to create a civilian space industry.

Glad we agree!

:cyclops:

So it'd have to be carefully orchestrated I think' date=' but I believe if we're going to really accelerate ourselves out there, it's going to take Corporate money...Which will start coming I think, once the advantages of spaceflight technology are more readily realized.[/quote']

All anyone has to do is point out the huge deposites of natural minerals & precious gems and they'll come on board.

:D

"Smaller' date=' Faster, Cheaper" isn't the [i']research[/i] philosophy of the computer industry...In fact it's not even the retail end if it, if it were, you'd be saying that one could go buy a 3.0 ghz proc. for significantly cheaper than an identical but lower clocked 2.0 ghz proc...Which obviously isn't the case.

The first computer was the size of a large building. That same processing power will now fit in your shirt pocket.

......It's a solar calculator.

nothing has stopped us from returning to the moon at any time' date=' except ourselves.[/quote']

Exactly right......We should've had well established colonies on the Moon by now.

you ever notice how rediculessly much we quote each other? :cyclops:

Then we might as well pull up a chair to the table & deal some cards. We'll be here a very long time.

:(
