Please forgive me if this plot hole/blooper/goof has been noted before, I am unaware of it being mentioned before.

So I was watching The Next Generation season 2, and I got to episode ten entitled "The Dauphin" (quick summary, it has the two shape shifting women, one of whom is young and destined to be a peace maker whom falls in love with Wesley).

Anyways in beginning of the episode before the theme even plays, Wesley comes out of the Turbo Lift and encounters this girl. She comments on something he has in his hands: note, I left the screen caps their normal size so we can tell them apart

I circled the device in his hand. The young lady says it is a "super conducting magnet". Sounds normal enough for the show right?

Then I immediately thought "Wait a second, Voyager ripped that off". And I was right.

Apon Wikiing Star Trek Voyager, I stumbled apon my answer. Season 1, episode ten entitled "Prime Factors", Ensign Kim among other crew find a device on an alien world that will allow them to literally travel 30,000+ light years in one basic jump.

wtf2.jpg

The device in question, was a "spatial trajector".

Now there is some room for doubt cause in the Wesley picture, he's holding it at a side angle. BUT if you actually can view this episode, you can see when he moves (walks) and such, the device is identical to the one used in Voyager.

Obviously it's a simple prop goof, like so many in the entire multple series run. I found it amusing cause I spotted it right away.

Figure some people might get a little laugh out of it.

Prop re-use always happens to a vast degree within the Star Trek Shows, Just look at the Voyager episode - Season 6 - Live Fast and Prosper

The entire bridge set of the Defiant was re-used - plus modifications.

Voyager though re-uses the most props - from bouncing back and force to the First Contact Phaser rifles, to pieces of medical equipment.

The funniest one though that I have seen so far, was in a Deep Space Nine Season 3 Episode - Visionary - which was a Warp Nacelle of a Romulan Warbird from the AMT/ETRL kit used by Bashir on O'Brien - painted grey.

That sort of thing goes on all the time though :)

Yep... i don't see why your that bothered about the re-use of props... other day i was watching enterprise "dead stop" from season two and saw that some bit of kit they used in the episode is same to the artifical intelligence in the voyager episode "Think tank" of season 5...

actually if you look enough at enterprise all the sets which are use to show caves and ice sets etc in season 4 are all the same just sprayed another colour.

The Star Trek shows re-use everything. There's a computer made view of a city (you know, the kind that is supposed to illustrate that something is happening in that particular area) that has been features in TNG, DS9 and VOY and at least 2-3 times in each show.

TNG didn't use any computer imagery. The computers were still too primitive, so they used *actual paintings*.

Wow. Who's that cute girl in the picture?

Um. I forget. What were we discussing?

I forget her name, sorry (I have since deleted season 2 off my HDD). But she was a shapeshifter, raised to be a great diplomat, assigned to this certain world the Enterprise D ferries her to where she'll bring peace between two huge waring countries.

I'm sure you can find the actress name in the Trek wiki and then look her up on imdb.com

(To stay on track) With all the budget cuts resulting from the lack of new followings of the Star Trek franchise, I'm not surprised that they had to dig into boxes of old props and recycle them. They could've at least changed it a little. Maybe wrap Christmas lights around it...

Let's not forget the reuse of Majel Barrett. :cyclops:
