Ulysses
I agree' date=' but I do have to say that they are getting better. I would really like to see their definiton of Sci-fi. I really wish they would stop with their stupid original movies, and stick to more new Sci-fi series, like Galactica.[/quote'] Wow, I didnt think anyone would agree with me, was expecting to get flamed lol. I'm glad im not alone though. I agree I too would also wish they would do more new sci-fi series like Galactica, for me Galactica sets a new standard and everything else at the moment just looks mediocre now! I must say I commend them for finally getting Doctor Who, but in my mind it's too little too late. I mean come on at least show the new eps. as they are airing. I mean people in Britain have access to U.S. shows like enterprise right? Or do they? Yeah we get Enterprise on Channel4, I never really found it that interesting though personally allthougn more watchable than new who IMO. Anyway I like dl the show it makes it all that much more special to watch. Each to there own, for me I prefer to watch stuff on TV before downloading it. I'll download if I want to rewatch it or do reviews for magazines, then buy the DVD if I like it if I have the money. I dunno sci fi shows seem to be increasing now even thou there are no new trek series, what is nice to see is a mixture of different type of sci-fi which can be only good. I mean look at whats coming out now. Battlestar Galactica - space armagedon, deep story lines and dark a joy to watch Dr Who - Time travelling and battling all kind of species Stargate Alantis - wonderful new show with a impressive foe and wonderful storylines All three of theses shows i love because they are totally different, as for dr who in america to quote the advert for Dr who the movie "ITS ABOUT TIME"
Bob434345
I think sci-fi has relaised the error in their policy of only earth based sci-fi. If they have purchased Who, and there current three top rated shows being (SG-1, Atlantis, Galactica) beign space based sci-fi. Hopefully this means more traditional sci-fi will be returning. Cypha01
Good point neomaster, variety is the spice of life. But bar BSG (and that can be argued), the other shows arent really doing anything 'new' or 'cutting edge'. So if like me, you want to see something completely new, cutting edge and really complex..there isnt really anything. There is no 'Hard Sci-fi', no '40k style sci-fi', no 'sci-fi infantry based war' stuff, no dark stuff ala Inquisitor, and my biggest dissapointment...nothing lovecraftian. On the positive side, perhaps in years to come with sci-fi being more popular, perhaps they WILL feel they can do more new/interesting stuff, and if it does go that way then ill take back all my comments bashing new who and various other series!! you have my word on that :)

Potato
Just looking at the cost of getting Sci-Fi for the run of Who. How do you people afford to pay out that much money for sattelite and cable every month? Do you think I could get a cable package that just consisted of Sci-Fi? Perhaps if I write to Sci-Fi and tell them that I'm really putting my families ability to eat in jeorpardy for Who they might pick up their option for the second series. Nah too much to hope for, but maybe they'll use it as an advertising campaign.
Hrimmer
While I agree that variety is the spice of life. I dont think of Lovecraft as Science Fiction. more Gothic Horror. lockdude
Ok it’s about spring time isn’t it? When are the new episodes going to air on the BBC?
drken
The latest gossip says in April. Still nothing official. There's alot of disscussion about it in the Outpost Gallifrey forum, and alot of people a saying April 15th. They're baseing this on some morning show in england that the new series would start in April and that's about the only concreate thing I've found. On another show they said May, but I'm hoping thats a mistake. Anyway, it's not looking like March anymore. So anyway, your guess is as good as anyone's. Mav
Loved the first two episodes. Strike me down if you must but I prefer this "kind" of Who over older stuff like Baker's Who. I like how they answer some questions but open up even more with those answers ;o The Doctor, is a Timelord. He has no name at all? Just, "the Doctor"? Surely his race had names, the Doctor seems more like a position or title than a name. What exactly is he a Doctor of? (seriously) His race are, Timelords correct? Is there a reason why Timelords look damn near exactly like humans? (other than production costs and stuff). And what was this great War he spoke of that destroyed his planet? The first episode, was a little cheesey. The second, was stellar. Not many shows are daring enough to show Earth get destroyed, even if it was far far into the future by our own sun. For some reason I'll look kindly on our homeworld being destroyed :( Loved the witty banter and jokes, the iPod thing was uber cheese but still hilarious. Other than his Tardis, I will say for the other alien races, I expected much more in terms of technology. They went 5 billion years into the future, and they are still using space stations with energy based shields? Granted in normal terms of science we don't have those really in present times (yes we got Mir but still..) but like those I could see in a few hundred years easily, but 5 billion ahead? I expected more. And I assume all the knobs and gadgets inside the Tardis are supposed to be corney like that? Roll a wheel, a whistle blows and zoom they are back and forward in time ;) I originally hated the theme song but it's growing on me, it reminds me alot of the Farscape theme. Not in the song's themselves in terms of sound but how at first I thought they were completely god awful, then they just became oh so sweet like a chorus of angels. Good stuff can't wait for x03 next week (season 27 right?). Speaking of season, why are they advertising the new 2005 series on dvd as "Series 1" when by all accounts it's like season 27 or 28? maybrick
It's series 1 because it's a new series. The original series was cancelled in 1989. There's a 15 year gap inbetween. When a comic book gets cancelled at, let's say, #222, and then some years later they bring the title back, they never start with the next number #223. No. They bring it back as Vol 2, #1. Aside from all that, when you get as high as Season 27 or 28 it's hard to keep track of which season is which. On the technology issue, 5 billion years is an awfully long time. I think that's how old our solar system is at this point in history. Our current civilization will no doubt have died out and replaced several times over in that time. Dark ages, mass extinctions, etc. A lot of the races in episode 2 (such as the trees) won't even evolve for millions of more years. Technology gets lost, then reinvented, then lost and reinvented again. Still, having the tech to shift whole continents back to "Classic Earth" would be quite impressive. Mav
wait wait, how did the series end in 1989? It started back in what, 1966? And there's 27 seasons give or take, so shouldn't it have gone longer than 89? And why was there such a huge huge gap? From the way it's been explained to me in the past, the series (the show itself not a season) has been going on year by year ever since 1966? im confused :(
Potato
The show started on November 22, 1963. It was put on Hiatus after the 22nd season for 18 months. Returned for 4 more years. The last episode aired in December of 1989. In 1996 a TV movie was made as a "back door pilot" but it never became a series. In September of 2003 the BBC announced it was bringing it back. Filming began in the summer of 2004 and the first episode, "Rose", aired the day before Easter 2005. This has been a brief history of Doctor Who; tune in next time for ...... Megalith
In the uk we do get Enterprise but it is certainly not aired at the same time as it is in the us i think we get it about a series behind. seems to be the same with anything imported we have only just finished recieving the first series of lost over here. I dont believe that this state of affairs will last for ever and the entire media needs to be completely reviewed. In this day and age with super fast multi-national data transfer it wont be long till we get the same things aired. if you live in the uk and have terrestrial television then you wont have even seen an episode of Battlestar Gallactica, well not the new one anyway. As for Dr Who the bbc should repeat it all, we have it here on UK Gold but only from John Pertwee onwards. if you think that you have it bad in the us you should try it here. Potato
I heard that the ratings for the first 2 episodes are not as good as new episodes of BSG or the 2 Stargates, but that they are better than nearly every thing else on Sci-Fi (even repeats of BSG and the 2 Stargates). Things are looking good for season 2....here's hoping.
