Without a doubt "Earthshock".

so glad to be rid of Tom Baker and get a more younger action style Doctor personally. I really love this season, even Time Flight and Black Orchid arent tha bad IMO. But Eartshock steals the season. After 7 years we'ere treated to the return of the cybermen. Black scary androids that melt people and leave there sizzling blood and guts in caves, a great Cybermen redesign, fantastic twist with the ship destroying the dinosaurs...and a nice unhappy/bleak ending with Adric getting killed. IMO how dr who *should* be, much more adult in tone than what went before.

That was Mawdyn Undead - it's in the next poll. What about those listed here?

Heh, OK... I had to familiarise myself with the names behind the episodes again..

My fav has to be Castovalva.

It's a really strong opener, probably the strongest of the entire show, all that info about the TARDIS, the Zero Cabinet, the regeneration fatigue AND The Master.. what more could you ask for :)

I will say though, the story that sticks out in my mind the most is 'Kinda'. It's a very startling image.. Tegan with those red teeth and eye (the snake sucked though :cyclops:)

BTW: I hope you don't mind but I 'borrowed' your TARDIS gif for use on another website (with a few alterations). Errrr... THX? :)

It's a bit wobbly (piloted by the Doctor at New Year, lol) but considering it was the first time I have even opened Photoshop (6 hrs, it took me!!) and it can't just be pasted (or I couldn't anyway..) on to a background and had to be done frame by frame I don't think it looks too bad :)

I love Castrovalva too. Nice bit of Hard sci-fi....love the whole idea of the dimensionally paradoxical trap. Goes deeper into the whole Block transfer computation science too. Great.

Kinda is really twisted, dark and imaginative. If only the snake was a giant silver python with red glowing eyes thar ripped people to shreds though..

I had to vote for black orchid. I think it made a great 2 parter as it set out to do something totaly out of the ordinary for a who story of this era. I think it was also succesful as a great piece of television. Props to them for trying something different!!

I have a soft spot for this era as its the first stuff i was able to record on betamax and so know all these stories backwards from millions of viewings with my fellow sci fi geeks back in the day :)

I hated Kinda as a child (probably because I was too young to understand it), but as an adult I think it is a fantastic story. As you say very dark, and very imaginative, it also had has some very understated sexual undertones in the scenes between the Mara and Tegan. I think this was janet Fieldings finest performance in her time during the show.

Not quite my fav in this group, have to go with Underscore and Black Orchid. That was very nearly perfect and as remarked very different from the stories surrounding it. As ever I'm saving my vote till last so I have the casting vite in any tie breakers.

Another vote for Earthshock, I'd put Castrovalva as #1 for the season. Also, I think Castrovalva is the 2nd best post-regeneration story, right after The Christmas Invasion, with Spearhead in a close third...

TimeFlight had so much potential, but by that point, the money was pretty much gone, and they were reduced to too much greenscreen...

You mean 8 parts, surely?

I voted Earthshock. I love Bidmead's writing on Castrovalva (not to mention I'm a big Escher fan), but Saward killed a companion!!!! I generally dislike Saward as I think his tenure as Script Editor ruined Who. However, some of his turns at writing Who rock; I can't figure out how he good be so good at the one thing and so bad at the other. Oh, well. This was certainly a tough set of choices.

OK, ya got me! 8^)

Even though as I originally saw the episodes the local PBS station broadcast them in the movie format.

There was something traumatic about The Doctor destroying his scarf.... I mean, The Scarf was a companion too!! (OK, overstatement, but it really effected me when i saw it)

Liked both Earthshock and Castrovalva but went with Earthshock. Surprise villain re-appearance, Peter Davison in fine form, history intertwined into the story, and best of all - Adric becomes an iridium layer. (By the way, has anyone seen the DVD extra - the claymation follow-up to the end. Absolutely hilarious!)
