The restroom, then? It is quite important, because...well...you know...

And we know it still exists because there is, in fact, a door labeled "Head" on - was it on the bridge? - the Enterprise. Also, Kirk sat on a toilet in when he was in the brig that time. And Trip got asked that one question about...well...recycling...

Yeah. You got it. Poor Tetsuo...

Here was the full answer I had prepared for any potential challenge of the question:

A conspiracy is defined as "An agreement to perform together an illegal, wrongful, or subversive act." (dictionary.com)

The place is the bathroom - which was and is important back on earth for obvious reasons, and the conspiracy in this case is an agreement to subvert mention of the bathroom (much in the same way we do today) and it's not mentioned by anyone anywhere in Star Trek TV/movie cannon (which is now somewhat of a gag to both the writers and fans).

The obvious significance of the place is that people need to use it to clean themselves and dispose of bodily waste leftover from their body's processing of food and drink. Without it, things would be extremely difficult and akward to say the least.

We know that humans are still aware of it because they still eat and drink and need to a place to clean themselves and dispose of bodily waste. We know that because of a few things:

1.) A small discusion between Zefram Cochrane and Geordi Laforge in First Contact.

2.) Brigs have toilets. They are just usually contained in wall pannels. (In the Voyager episode where Tom Paris is in the brig for 30 days, there's a toilet. Also In Star Trek 5, while in the brig, Kirk sits down on the toilet.) See this Memory Alpha article on brigs.

3.) Shots of people exiting the bathroom in their quarters. I remember TNG having a few.

4.) Shots of people actually in the bathroom doing things like taking showers. Voyager, ENT.

No, no, it was very good. The harder the question is to answer, the better.

NEXT QUESTION:

What happened in the mid-90s that eventually caused both the death of Jean-Luc Picard, and led to his life being saved? Also: what was the exact year, and how did it cause both of those things?

Gonna butt in here for some bean counting. Ignore the scores if you like; the points don't really matter after all.

Score:

Queenhawk: 11 points (Q3,Q5,Q7)

Arktis: 7 points (Q2,Q6)

Marcroft: 6 points (Q1)

Hilander72: 5 points (Q4)

c4evap: negative one-gazillion points for being a bad, naughty person by not reading the rules before jumping in and majorly disrupting the thread. Bad mod! At this point, Hilander72 started handing out points from a question that didn't even count because it was started before a correct answer was given and winner was named for the previous question.

and it's not mentioned by anyone anywhere in Star Trek TV/movie cannon (which is now somewhat of a gag to both the writers and fans).

Jake Sisko asks his father about the bathroom in DS9 3x22 "Explorers" when he takes the trip in the old Bajoran lightship. So there was a bathroom present but more importantly it was mentioned.

And there are numerous references in DS9 to Starfleet officers being posted to "Waste Extraction" duty, which by their infurence we are to led to believe means recycling that back into the ships water/energy supply.

I'll check into that a bit later, but I don't recall Jake ever saying that.

As for "waste extraction", I thought of that when making the question and for all we know it could just mean normal garbage, and isn't actually anything like saying "the bathroom" even if it does deal with sewage.

Edit: Oh, and nobody is saying there aren't bathrooms. Where'd you get that idea?

I've skimmed through the episode 3 times and found no mention of any bathroom. Later on I'll sit down and actually watch it from start to finish.

Captain Kirk: tighty whiteys or boxers?

c4 :cyclops:

I'll take a guess at boxers

Please tell me you don't have a series of risque questions lined up? I'm about as crude and gross as they come but I can just see some Vulcan anatomy questions coming down the road from you ;p

Trick question! Vulcans use logic to convince their digestive tract that there is no need to expunge waste' date=' except for once every 7 years. They call it "Pow luck flush" or, in English, "Crap time".[/quote']

Hey! You're good!

Here's another (serious this time) question:

What is Janeway's sister's name?

c4evap' date=' I know you don't know this, so I'll just tell you. This thread has rules. You should read them. ;)[/quote']

If you're refering to my last question. I don't see how it's in error. Janeway has a sister.

The one before was meant to be humorous. Is that what you mean? I reread the rules (that you have updated as stated) and didn't see that I was breaking any.

Can you elaborate?

You can't just jump in and start asking questions. You have to answer one correctly first, then you pose the next one. And those rules were updates quite a while back, not today or yesterday.

Maybe I should just forget about it. Obviously not everyone read the rules anyways and some of those who have such as yourself don't seem to get it. It may be impossible to maintain a thread like this, not if people keep just jumping in and throwing around questions out of turn.

Sorry if I pissed you off. That wasn't my intention. I noticed on the 10th. that nobody was posting any questions so I though I'd throw a funny in and maybe stir up some business for you. I suppose I'll take my ball and slink on home now...

EDIT: If it makes you feel any better you can have the strips I've won. Sorry again.

I'm just frustrated, that's all. Seriously it's not a big deal. You'd be frustrated too if you were trying to have some fun and some people came and hosed your thread. Anyways, screw the rules. I'll just call them guidelines. People can follow them if they like. Go ahead and post your questions. Fun is fun any way you slice it.

*Rules updated.* Questions that follow the point system are in orange, everything else can be whatever you like, whenever you like (except being in orange).

The currently unanswered point system question is:

What happened in the mid-90s that eventually caused both the death of Jean-Luc Picard' date=' and led to his life being saved? Also: what was the exact year, and how did it cause both of those things?[/color']

Personally, I have no clue. I searched memory alpha and even went into the Picard family history. Good question!

Currently unanswered non-point system questions:

What is Janeway's sister's name?

How many "shortcuts" did Voyager take on her voyager home?
