My visit to the TNG set

I don't know personally anyone who really cares about Star Trek as I do so I thought I would tell you guys the story of how I was on the set of Star Trek TNG, well to be exact it was Generations. My step mom at the time was an animal trainer for tv and movies and one of the shows she did was TNG. Anytime you saw Spot on set my step mom (or a coworker) was a few feet away.

I'm not sure what year it was (but im sure you all can tell me) but she let me come with here to the set. My memory is a little foggy on details but I remember walking through engineering and being in heaven, I just wanted to touch a panel so bad but I was scared that it would beep or something and I would be in trouble. Then I got to visit the bridge which was a big disappointment because it was already trashed after the crash scene, I also remember poking my head into what I think was a part of ten forward and seeing the star matte out side the window (looks so fake in person) im not sure if it was ten forward only because it looks as though it was being dismantled. The only other set I saw was the one they where filming on all day which was the scene where Data and Troy are looking for Spot and he finds him (her) in the rubble.

I did not officially meet any of the actors. But I did sit 3 feet away from Gates as she talked to my step mom about animals. Brent was really funny, before and after takes he would sing and dance a little. But the two things that stick in my mind the most was when they would take a break to re setup Marina would have someone unzip the back of her uniform and I could see her BRA strap(hey I was a young teenage boy) and second was that Michael Dorn came to the craft service area in full makeup and this little kid looked up at him and started balling his eyes out and he looked at me and smiled.

When the day was over we went out to pack up the van and on the ground all over the place were little parts of set. My step mom knew what I was thinking and right before we left she let me hide a little rounded rectangular panel that had some writing on it, on further inspection I relized that the writing was song lyrics, i think from "A Horse With No Name" but I can not be sure as I to my terror can't find the panel anymore. Well thats my story, later all

What??? Is this thread now gonna turn in to an off topic rant about how the guy is crap at sentence structure? (true, and I hope he fixes it if he expects more interest.. but, COME ON^^)

Anyway the story, if true, is a fairly good one to have in your repartoir..(I have to admit thought there's no way on god's earth I'd have lost that momento).

If you don't want to read it, don't read it, however in the time it took to post off topic, you could have read it and posted ON topic. (TetsuoShima.. I'm surprised at you. :p)

It was certainly not my intention to rant, just to provide some good guidelines for a fellow member. That is part of my function here you know... ;)

I could have PM'ed it, but I thought it would be more usefull to actually post it, so that others who would think about posting in such an unorderly fashion would be hopefully slightly discouraged...

Usually I'm clearer about this and place a moderation notice or something, guess I wasn't paying attention enough. I'd post something on-topic too, but since I haven't read it yet (the text just spins away in front of my eyes) I wouldn't know what to say... :)

Let's just drop it and hope that xilikedirtx will read this and edit his post a bit...

I posted this at 5 am right after I got off work from the night shift so I think we should all be happy I at least used spell check. I am admittedly horrible with sentence and paragraph structure (grammar) so if you like the story that's great but if you are just going to lecture people on there mistakes then don't bother to post. As for those who are interested, I feel like a complete idiot for losing track of that peace of set. I thought that I had it in my large container of old baseball cards but unfortunately NOPE.

P.S. My step mom was also an extra on one the episode "Up The Long Ladder"(23:55 in the 175 mb version, she is the gypsy looking women on the left side of the screen) I will see if I can post a screen cap if anyone is interested?

Heh, the closest experience I had with the set was when 'Star Trek The Exhibition' came to Edinburgh and among all the cool prop, I got a pic of me sitting in the Enterprise D Captain's Chair (although there was a sign on it saying 'Please Do Not Touch' ^^) If I ever get a scanner I'll post the Exhibit Pictures.

To walk amongst a Galaxy class starship, the Enterprise D no less, now thats something I think alot of us would only dream of.

They could make so much money off of it, not only from possibly auctioning off small pieces officially on startrek.com but like, setup a place out in LA or wherever and just charge admission for people to walk around the set. Obviously you'd need people watching to make sure things aren't damaged or taken, but Trek geeks from around the world would visiti it every year, it could be like the Disney Land for geeks ;p Offer up all the sets from TNG through Ent. (They'd have to recreate TOS since no official set is left of it).

Plus they could have the obligatory gift shop, who wouldn't want to take home their official replica of a tricorder, phaser or comm badge? ;p

I went and saw Star Trek the Exhibition (or something liek that in name) in Sydney 1998 and I was struck firstly by how fake some of the things like phasers looked like because they are painted up bits made to look real on screen. But I also saw part of the TOS bridge and was suprised how good it looked since they had such a low budget and limited materials. It was well worth the trip across the country I really envy xilikedirtx and seeing the Generations sets.

They already did. It's in Las Vegas and it's called Star Trek The Experience. There's a torrent about it on the site too.

He's the wiseguy on the set. And he also has his own CD. Him and DeLancie are the jokers at conventions, which I have seen both of them and gotten their autog. Same for Dorn. He made a sexual joke about Troi on stage in his deep klingon voice.

As for the props, they're all cheap rubber or foam, except for the ones they specially make for close up shots, that have moving lights and gizmos. You can see a load of them at the trek exhibit in the air and space museum in D.C.
