ank329
Right now I use PowerDVD version 6 for any video files, and winamp for all audio files
Weyoun
I use MediaPlayer Classic for all video files, including quicktime, .ogm, RealMedia files, and just about anything else, other than .bin and .cue files. For those, VLC all the way.
carcynsdad
i have always just stuck with windows media player 9, it is a pain in the ass to find the right codecs sometimes but once you've got all the right ones it plays just about anything you can throw at it
Slash
Windows Media Player 10 I CANNOT use anything else...I just cannot get used to it, lol except i use quicktime 7 for .mov files, and VLC for avi files with more than one audio stream and maybe VLC for dvd's as well - skips right to menu lol
karimw786
This is a very good thread, but I would like to get an answer with respect to Linux Media Players. I tried Media Player Classic, but it didn't work on Ubuntu Linux 5.04. I tried VLC on Ununtu, but it does not allow me to configure aspect ratios (e.g. 4:3). I used the default Totem Media Player that comes with Ubuntu, but it just plain sucks! What does one use for LINUX!!!???
CeeJay
What does one use for LINUX!!!??? .. Mplayer .. maybe ? http://www.mplayerhq.hu I don't run Linux but I hear good things about it (Mplayer). or Xine perhaps : http://xinehq.de/
grepper
xine (gxine is the gui) and mplayer (gmplayer is is the gui) are both excellent. I also notice a setting for aspect ration in vlc's settings under video preferences. all the best, grepper
weareborg
Yeahm i heard that mplayer was good for linux. Go here to download it: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html
mossup
mplayer in the console, it just plays everything, audio and video, and you dont even need a gui, no X, no window managers, or you can, its just the best and runs smoother than windows media player, in the console and on the gui, and you can streamrip from realmedia sources and windows media sources. if you have frame buffer installed then that makes it work in a tty. and the contents inside bin and iso's without unpacking them. S0V13T
VLC and MPC + the Alternative plugin's for video for me. To hell with codec packs, and hunting down individual codecs.

Hilander72
I use WMP10. A lot of my problems with codecs is currently solved by ffdshow. ffdshow is DirectShow and VFW codec for decoding/encoding many video and audio formats, including DivX and XviD movies using libavcodec, xvid and other opensourced libraries with a rich set of postprocessing filters.
