Picking a favourite party is like picking a favourite Trek series. No matter what you pick, you'll appreciate things about the other ones that you wish were part of yours :cyclops:

I don't care about politics, scientific acheivement will eventually undermine government influence. That is, if we don't kill ourselves first. Oh well, Trek will happen, it'll all be good.

PS When WW3 Happens, who wants to hide out and develop faster than light travel in hopes of achieving first contact? I've got dibs on being cochrane, though. :cyclops:

Well I'm in Canada. We've got the great choice of Liberals (Power whores), The progressive alliance or whatever they call themselves (basicly old men afraid of change) And the NDP (the joke that never gets old). And if your lucky enough to live in quebec, you can choose the Bloc (angry bitter frenchmen).

Basicly, in canada, we don't really care who's running the country, as long as they don't screw something up. I mean hell, our last PM Jean left the country on biz, and his popularity raiting went up. The less we hear about them, the better :)

And i voted liberal last election, but only because I smoked up the candiate 2yrs previous to his running

Actually' date=' Social Democrats are more like Socialists, and there isn't really a social democrat party in the U.S. (never has been actually)[/quote']

Um...no. I think the socialists of denmark is "SF" (socialistisk folkeparti) or "Enhedslisten" - just like "Venstre", which means left in danish, is actually on the right wing. Funny thing to have a history long enough to turn things around ....

I am a Democrat on most issues (education' date=' environment, and most other things) but I support Bush's war.(about the only thing though)[/quote']

You don't happen to watch FOX news while not wearing your trusty tinfoil brain-wave-control-ray protection hat do you?

I still don't understand how anyone could support Bush's war.. First it's "We're going there because they have weapons of mass destruction" didn't find any.. then it's "They want us there" yeah.. i'm sure they do.. i guess that's why the numbers of the terrorists are growing..

I'm Australian, so when I am old enough to vote, I'll just vote randomly and hope that whoever I voted for can do better than the last jerk who was Prime Minister. Of course, I do have a favourite political system: European Socialism. It works better than any capitalist or communist system that I've ever seen (even though Socialism is based on Communism to a degree).

Um...none of the Danish parties are listed... I voted for "Social demokratiet" - guess that makes me a democrat.

Hey, if DEMOcracy is by the people, is DEOcracy by the god?

I wish the US had a stronger Social Democrat tradition. You're mixing Greek and Lation with "deocracy" ... keeping it in Greek, it's "theocracy."

Personally, I like Jared Diamond's label of all governmental systems that support a parasitic class on the backs of the people ... kleptocracy - "ruled by thieves!"

I've always liked the term OILigarchy.

Who thinks we live in a Democracy?

Do any of you think that America is now, or has ever been a Democracy? If so, why?

Our founding fathers feared two things: Democracy and Monarchy, and saw to it that we would never have either. And yet we purport to export Democracy by force to our Middle East protectorates while denying it in our own back yard to Haiti.

Régime change begins at home.

We live in what is called a Repersentative Democracy' date=' meaning we can elect our leaders who govern us. So, although it's not a true democracy, it is still a type of one.[/quote']

With all due respect to wookies everywhere, we live in Republic.

In a Representative Democracy, Al Gore would have been president because The Majority (i.e. Popular Vote) wanted him to be their leader.

However, in our Glorious Republic, NON-elected officials representing not The People, but the best interests of The Republic decided the Presidency as per rule of constitutional law.

The constitution BTW never once uses the word democracy, and for good reason:

“Democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death.â€ÂÂ

-- James Madison, father of the Constitution

Our Founding Fathers were cultured gentlemen who rightly feared giving the ignorant masses the power to affect their great wealth, power or freedom. The freedom they sought was freedom from the masses, not freedom for the masses.
