The Prophets vs. The Q Continuum

Q obviously.

The Prophets got locked up in their own wormhole, could be destroyed by that temporal radiation stuff and had to get Sisko to finish off the Pah'Wraith for them.

The Q have only ever been shown to be vulnerable to each other - or in that episode of Voyager, people in the Q continuum armed with Q weapons.

who knows.

the prophets seem to have a lack of understanding with regards to humanoid issues and they also seem to have a rudimentary concept of time.

the Q have a massive understanding of seemingly everything but that does not mean they have more raw power.

indeed the prophets with theur rudimentary understanding of whats outside their environment may have enough power to wipe the floor with the entire continuum but have no need to demonstrate it.

i voted Q cos based on the evidence seen so far they seem to have it all covered.

Q, by a a football fields length.

While the Prophets possess similar powers, possibly, they can also as said before be killed and locked within their own domain (the Celestial Temple).

A Q can only be wounded or killed, by another Q. While occasionally a few dip into the lives of people in the various quadrants most Q remain content with just leaving other species alone.

Q easily win aganist Prophets.

Yeah, no question- Q. The Q can remake the universe with just a thought- the only reason they don't, I think, is that the task bores them. They prefer to have fun with the universe. The Prophets, on the other hand, have rarely shown any power at all. If they decided to go to war, the Q would eliminate them in less than an instant. What could the prophets do to stop them- possess a Q, and mate to make a savior? Their methods, as seen with Sisko's mother, are clumsy and inefficient.

Not to mention their powers seem to be linked to the various Orbs. All it took was one Cardassian possed by a single Pah-wraith to disable all but one Orb, which effectively closed the Celestial Temple trapping the Prophets. The Q would not allow themselves to have some kind of backdoor Achilles-heel type way of trapping them/removing them from the equation.

Hmm. I think the single difference here is what each race was put into the show to do: Q was always intended to be above the characters, because he was put there to judge humanity. The prophets, on the other hand, are put in with a very clear purpose in the story, a connection to the Bajorans. When they're serving that purpose, it's only a matter of time until the writers stick in some character who can attack them to get at the main characters. So if we had compared the Q to the prophets based only on the first episode of DS9, before the writers started looking for stories, the competition would be very close. Likewise, if a Q had a connection to the cast, say, by being friends with one of the characters from the beginning of TNG, then I bet we would have found out about some Achilles' Heel by now because it's hard to tell stories about a character who can't be hurt.
