Nightvision mod

Over at my board, we have a member who found a great mod for those CVS one time use Digital Video cameras. While it just covers things in broad strokes, anyone with a fair ammount of electronics knowledge can do the mods, and find the detailed instructions for adding the USB connector, and other basic mods for this.

Nice find. Should point out by CVS the article is talking about a store in many towns in America, it's sort of a quick stop for snacks and has a pharmacy. I'm sure most large brand disposable cameras can do this? (for those that lack a CVS in their country or town).

Isn't nightvision supposed to be that really bright green color? Either way that's not bad, a night vision goggle for what, less than $5 USD?

Actually, the camera, which is sold by CVS, Walgrens, and other similar stores, is about $20USD. Add in about $5-$7 USD for the LEDs and other supplies, and you have the camera.

The reason why the displays were green for a long time is simply because the screens were a monochrome green, the CCD was monochrome, and they didn't know what else to use than green, as a red tone would be too hard to make out.

But, it is possible, given the right CCD, screen, and LED, that you could in fact, make a color nightvision modification.

However given that most nightvision products run you at least $200USD, a $25-$30USD modded one isn't too shabby!

Won a bag of money? Unless you are talking pennies, this isn't an expensive thing to do.

CVS One Time Use Digital Camcorder-$20

Set of Infrared (Ir) LEDs-$5

Soldier-$2

Old Camcorder viewfinder-Free to $5 at any thrift store.

So we aren't talking a huge fortune here

They're for the more mindless members of American society, who can't figure out how to use a digital camcorder, and burn the content on a DVD. Basicly, One pays $20 for one of these camcorders, then turns it in at the drug store's developer. The developers pop it open, and hook the board to a machine that downloads the content and burns it onto a DVD.

However, with a but of work, one can modify these to hook into a USB port instead of turning it in.

Basicly, one winds up paying for this camera, but keeps nothing but a DVD. But, it makes for a wonderful thing to modify.
