VonHelton
The Mayans were an ancient civilization in south america' date=' their are most well noted for their cities of gold (literally, cities made of gold). Unusually, as compared to other native american civilizations, they utilized a pyramid architecture and it is believed that they may have participated in trade with the egyptians, supported by the presence of THC in egyptian mummies.[/quote'] So "Old Lizard Breath" may have hung out with the Egyptians as well? I don't recall any lizard like creatures in Egyptian Mythology, but I admit that my study was awhile back. :stare:

tisjusme
Dunno just what to think. Looking at the pictures as sceptically as possible, maybee they are sand dunes after all. Although I want to beleive Ernest L. Norman from 1955, I can't say they are worms and they dont look the norm. Your guess is as good as mine
elderbear
Well gee whiz, how many human sacrifices do you need to be convinced that they may pose a threat?? :stare: :stare: :stare: Not meaning to disrespect anybody's religion - but ritual cannibalism is practiced at every mass ... In fact, come to think of it, those Catholics didn't hold open and free elections for the new Pope! And Benedict XVI used to head up what would be classified as a terrorist organization (aka the Inquisition). Doesn't that make The Vatican, with its support for ritual cannibalism, its attempt to influence politics in democratic nations, and its "terrorist" leader a Rogue Nation? Quick - let's invade - I think an airdrop of a few thousand protestant fundamentalists should do the trick! Is this meant as an attack on Catholicism? NO! But it is an example of how a distorted perspective can lead to an illogical and dangerous conclusion! It follows that our dealings with any alien civilization - Mars Mayans or otherwise - are likely to have very a anthropocentric perspective for us. We will almost certainly misinterpret a great deal. If it's so easy to go bananas over Roman Catholics, how much easier it would be to go absolute ape defecation on aliens?!? Just a thought.
tinpusher
As a student of geology they look like lava pillows. A pillow is formed when magma is ejected into water, the water instantly cools the top layer forming a shell. Presure builds within the shell until lava erupts through it. The result is the formation of the ripple type formations visible in this image. It would therefore suggest that at some point in the history of that location it was covered in water, and we already know that mars was highly volcanic and that its tectonic and volcanic activity slowed to a stop nearly 2 billion years ago. The presence of Olympus Mons, the largest shield volcano in the solar system supports this hypothesis.
