Potato
Yeah, but this is the Hugo award. The ultimate Science Fiction award. Not just any sci-fi can be up for this.

Potato
From Outpost Gallifrey: "The three are running against an episode of the new "Battlestar Galactica" series, the Pixar animated short "Jack Jack Attack," the short film "Lucas Back in Anger," and a live event, the "Prix Victor Hugo Awards Ceremony" performed at last year's World Science Fiction Convention in Glasgow, Scotland, which was written by writers Paul McAuley and Kim Newman (both of whom have, coincidentally, written for Telos Publishing's Doctor Who novella range)." gathererhade
Unfortunately, I think DW has little chance of winning. When B5 got multiple nominations JMS declined for all but one ep. His reasoning - quite sound, I think - was that more than one nomination for the show would split the vote.
gathererhade
And was I wrong! The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances won the Hugo. I expect the voting figures will be up in a little bit. Even the official Hugo/Worldcon site hasn't posted it yet.

Moonstalker
Recognition! I had thought that several episodes from both seasons were top notch in both writing and acting.
gathererhade
Apparently, Dalek came 2nd & Father's Day 3rd.
Antilles
Im surprised coz Fathers Day was an altogether stronger story, anyone can throw together a Dalek story! But I guess it was the return of the Dalek(s) in a very long time!
gathererhade
Finally got the voting figures: Note that there is an optional preferential system in place, so getting a lot of primary votes doesn't always mean you will win. Basically, looks like the Doctor Who stories shared their preferences, which got all 3 over the line, even though Battlestar Galactica "Pegasus" got the most primary votes 137. Primary votes for all 3 Doctor Who stories combined was 246. 1st Doctor Who "The Empty Child" & "The Doctor Dances" 247 Battlestar Galactica "Pegasus" 195 2nd Doctor Who "Dalek" 228 Battlestar Galactica "Pegasus" 215 3rd Doctor Who "Father's Day" 214 Battlestar Galactica "Pegasus"
