Yea that halo weapon was good. i think that energy weapons in the sense of directed beam weapons are to slow. However pulsed energy distruptors, now that's a rate of fire you want.

Both beam weapons and slug-throwers have there uses and limitations. (BTW' date=' both are [b']engergy[/b] weapons.)

 

Personally I like edged weapons, but they also have their drawbacks.

Kristian Birkeland (who first gave us a nearly 100% correct explanation of the aurora in the early 20th century) invented a Gaussian cannon for Norway. As far as I know, it was never used in warfare, but I believe a working model was built.

 

I like the rail launcher from Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, a nearly perfect way of escaping a small gravity well, and well suited to the moon, with plenty of access to solar power, but little access to fuel materials.

Even the people on DS9 think projectile is better. In the episode "Field of Fire" they create the best weapon ever, a sniper rifle that can shoot through walls. Best thing is, the weapon is completely untraceable.

Yah projectiles......not saying guns, but mass drivers and gauss cannons. They do way more damage compared to the energy weapons. And I also think that Photon Torpedos would be counted as projectiles, no?

Modify the orbit of a medium sized asteroid so that it slams into earth. I think you'll find a projectile weapon will do just fine. In fact, if you choose the orbits correctly, you might even be able to do it with an ion drive ...

OMG! ;) They do their damage with the kinetic energy of the projectile!!!

 

I think what all you mean to be arguing about is whether energy beam weapons are superior to kinetic energy weapons!

 

BTW, anti-personnel beam weapons already exist, both sonic and microwave for crowd control. Go to a demonstration and get microwaved by Homeland Security ... But then, watching the LAPD riot in 2000, they used their nightsticks to make a real impression ... as well as shooting people who were trying to disperse in the backs with beanbags and rubber bullets.

I would say projectile weapons are my faverite, such as the MP-44. But the nazis were interested in other weapons such as a sound weapon. Im sure whatever is best at killing in an efficient manner is best. I will vote with energy weapons because you could exterminate whole citys at once!

Dude! Remember that sniper rifle from that ds9 episode with the psyco vulcan that teleports the bullet. That thing was way cooler than any energy weopon.
