What could Voyager have been?

Here's an interesting thing I never knew.. i found it at: Voyager Questions

What do you think it would have been like?

Why did Michael Piller leave the show?

Michael Piller, one of the co-creators and executive producers of Voyager left the show at the end of it's second season as a result of an overhaul of the series. Said Piller, "A deliberate decision was made when I left the show to do a different kind of series. The studio's research told them that audiences were not happy with the direction that I had charted for the series in its second season. This is my only true regret about my Star Trek experience, because I felt creatively that we had turned a corner in year 2, but apparently I was the only one who thought so. I say 'apparently' because I don't entirely trust research. And I have a feeling that if Gene had been alive he would have told me the same thing he told me when he asked me to stay at the end of year 3 of TNG, and that was that this series needed one more year to really catch on. I think if we had stayed the course that we would have had a similar breakthrough in Voyager in year 3. But I really cannot complain because even my best friends were not happy with the show."

it also stated that Jeri Ryan left the show after season 4. Which explains the shift in programming as well.

Which is exactly the moment I lost interest in Voyager... Curious! :)

Rick Berman's job was to ruin the franchise? Sorry! Run... run the franchise. Easy mistake to make though.

That's interesting. I actually thought that one of the redeeming features of season 2 was the whole Seska, Kazon, Paris. I mean, after that Janeway was on her anti-continuity mission WITH AVENGANCE.

Also , let's not forget that Ronald D. Moore had run off before the show even started.

Season 2 has always been one of my favorite seasons... i really enjoyed season 5 as well... but I remember my first time watching season 2 and thinking how great it was. I liked the aliens, seska, ... the whole thing about Chakotay loving Janeway... all around good season. Michael Piller was the man! :D

BTW.. I have to say that season 3 probably rates the lowest on my season fav's...
