Potato
My question is, if there is no script yet then how can anyone say for certain what this will be about? I'm a writer and I know that no matter what intention you might have when you sit down to write what comes out may not have any resemblance whatsoever to that original vision. Besides the article I read states that Shatner and Nimoy havn't been contacted yet. Now why would it say that if they were doing a Starfleet Academy story? Sounds like a lot of speculation in the press leading to rioting in fandom. My advice, sit back and wait to see what happens.
motoxjesse
well i just want to know, as a writer yourself, how do you feel about colaborating with other writers to make one script? just wanted to hear your thoughts on this...pros/cons
Tenebrae
I'm in the middle of orchestrating a colloboration between several authors at the moment... not easy. Pros: A lot more creative material, more energy... Cons: You've really all got to be on the same page. The greatest risk is "creative differences". Sometimes even small details can seem overly important and lead to schisms. As to the script - well, writing a script for a Hollywood isn't like dusting crops, boy. Basically someone in the business pitches an idea, it might not be scripted. So presumably, someone (maybe JJ Abrams, maybe not) goes to Paramount and says "I've got a great idea for a Star Trek film! SPOCK AND KIRK STARFLEET SPRINGBREAK. WITH WIGS." Or something. The mighty intellects of Paramount will ponder the merit of the idea for several seconds before giving the go ahead. Then they'll write the script, start casting and so on. The script isn't necessairily going to stick to the exact original idea. Alien 3 is a case in point - from wooden ship full of monks to prison planet full of cons. However, given the fact that Abrahms is writing, directing AND producing - unless he's going to have a major change of heart, it seems reasonable to assume that the original idea is going to be what comes out at the end.
