Tenebrae
It's low speed is perplexing but given the number of times they'd have to put down on a planet where for one reason or another they couldn't transport and they had a turbulent atmosphere. The non-canonical explanations for its non-use are - depending on what you believe: 1. It wasn't finished and what you see in the shots are just some sort of panel to cover the whole. 2. It was just cannabalised for parts.
Hilander72
Maybe they forgot or didn't know they had one. ;)
TFMF
Was it actually mentioned in Voyager at all? Because i never knew this ship existed untill you told me :p
Tenebrae
Nope. It's never mentioned, never seen (beyond the outline which I'm certain is seen pretty much every episode), never used, nothing. For all intents and purposes, it does not exist. Although, apparently they did make an animation for it detatching. It would have been nice if they used it but c'est la vie. hayden
whoa thats wild.. iv'e never known of this.. and i cant think of any mention of it either.. quite strange.. would be great to see the animation for it undocking though
TFMF
Yeah it'd be good if we could have seen it once in the last season perhaps - i mean the SFX guys were able to make an entire metropolis in Workforce - you'd think they could make a shuttle :p
Tenebrae
They did. There's a screen shot of it in my original link. Looks pretty cool. Actually, thinking about it - there is a slight similarity to a Maquis raider.
TFMF
Yeah - i don't think it really matters though - once the Delta Flyer came along they didn't really need it :) and i think the Delta Flyer looks better anyway...
Steveo
The Flyer was a much better ship in terms of interstellar travel, being faster, stronger and all the other six million dollar man things.
Tenebrae
The Delta Flyer also has a lot more LOVE. Designated honeymoon vessel for the USS Voyager.
Mindwalker
FYI; TOS had four different bridges. 1. TOS series. 2. The Motion Picture 3. The Wrath of Khan -> The Search For Spock 4. The Final Frontier & The Undiscovered Country. TNG had 2. One for the series, one for the movies. My favourite bridge is the Final Frontier & The Undiscovered Country-bridge. TFMF
I was kind of excluding the mvoies but i will say that the TNG bridge in Generations was much better
Steveo
It made better use of space, and I believe there were reasons for having like that to do with cinema filming. They destroyed the Enterprise-D model because it was designed for TV, and that way they could construct a new model that was suited to cinema. TFMF
I liked how almost every room on the Enterprise D Movie Design was so much darker than the TV design - it made it much more up-to-date

They should have started with these kinda bridges and those kinda outfits... The other ones of TOS are fairly xxx and stupid looking... Mod note: Inapproiate reference removed. Mindwalker
Not really. All the sets have each their own charm!
Steveo
You also have to remember, that set wasn't made till the late 80s, and TOS was well before that.
