why not just build a dyson sphere and fuggat aboddit!!!!!!

cose gravitational effects of the sun on this sphere would be immense unless you meant around earth or something, ok sun has tremendous gravity, it is a a star - if you could imagine standing on the sun (hypothetically) you would have weighted more than 100 tons, and this is only on top of surface - what we se when we look at sun, but at the core gravity is way more higher about 27 times than on the surface so you calculate.

And if this is not enough, Dyson Sphere would not prevent supernova actually it might do the opposite and speed it up, not only that, but force of supernova can't be stopped, three is evidence when supernova went off a small black hole feeding on dying star also exploded as a result of original supernova. The effect was amazing, and this why we have new hypothesis on black holes now.

but this is altogether a new theory and new thread in-it self...

:cyclops:

yeah but if we had the tech to build a dyson sphere around the earth couldnt we put a propulsion system of some kind on it and tell the rest of the solar system to sod off?????

No. We need the heat from the sun to keep warm. Earth doesn't have enough internal heat.

We should only leave SOL SYSTEM as a last resort, and then find another sun quickly, before everyone freezes to death!

i would think it would be easier and cheaper to just move to a different world.

Yes, I agree. Although, the nearest star system (alpha centauri) is almost 100 years away on conventional engines. There is no indication that that system even has a minshara class planet for us to move to. The nearest minshara class planet is simply too far away with conventional engines.

scuse me for being stoopid BUT....by the time anything like this does happen wouldn't we probably have settled on mars or even on one of the moons of jupiter...with possibly several space stations/colonies also???????

Werecow......

How many rockets have you seen launch recently?

.....There's your answer.

ok...how many years in the future will the sun turn earth into a cinder?....i thought it took several million years for a yellow dwarf to turn into a red giant....but im just a cow...what do i know...btw i used to live just off MacAurther blvd. and i used to live in fairfax county also...does channel 20 still have that goofball who used to dress up on sat night as the count and during the daytime as captian 20 with vulcan ears?????

I think it's roughly 5x10^9 - 5 American Billions. But, using the asteroid/planetoid energy transfer method would take a very, Very, VERY, VERY long time. I'm sure we've got a few millenia to think about it!
