Mav
Found (one of) the articles I was thinking of Jane Tranter, BBC Controller of Drama Commissioning, confirmed last night that a third series of Doctor Who - plus a second Christmas special - has been commissioned. Tranter also confirmed that Billie Piper, who plays the Doctor's companion Rose Tyler, would feature in every episode of series two including the Christmas special. From: http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/06_june/16/who_series3.shtml So I may have misread it some originally. This was pretty much the basic "news" that circulated last summer around the time Season 27 ended and people were eager for the Christmas Special. Though if I DO read the article right, Billie Piper is in through the end of Season 28 and that seasons Christmas Special. So maybe she won't die after all but just be seperated from the Doctor? Who knows
Fenriswolf
I also get the vibe (like Mav and others) that behind the lighthearted banter and episode there was a very real darker undertone, this whole lifepath that people get set on when they encounter the Doctor, this is something that hasn't fully been explored. He touches so many people but nine times out of ten he leaves a wake of destruction in their lives. Elton's mother's death was a great example of this, you have a kid who doesn't know what's going on, sees a stranger in his house and his mother's dead...what's he going to think? That was a nice little touch imho.
Tenebrae
I do hope Tennent stays on... I think with more sensible writing/directing he could be up there with Tom Baker... plus, it's not like the Doctor has that many more regenerations to go through. Although I suppose that never stopped The Master. I wonder if the Master is still around. I feel confident he wouldn't let a little thing like being utterly destroyed get in the way of a come back. Plus he uses hovercraft. How bad can he be?
Fenriswolf
I would like to see David Tennant as the Doctor for much longer, especially in scenes like his confrontation with Mr. Finch...that was some damn good acting, especially since he was up against Anthony Stewart Head. Tenebrae
It would be nice if they gave him weightier dialogue though... The stuff with Head was pretty cool... as was the monologue when he was hiding out in el Pit De Satano. Apparently though, a lot of fans (according to a newspaper) are vexed that the show has become a comedy.
Megalith
Dr who has always had its comedy moments. thats one thing ive loved about it, the ability to have something that makes you laugh in one episode and the next one makes you cry or sends a chill down the spine. Its not as tho it has turned into a comedy because one episode had a few funny moments in it tho, but Peter Kaye runnin down the street as an Absorbalof lickin his lips was a funny moment imo. I love Marc Warren (Elton) i must say, Hustle is one of my fav progs on the beeb. There where a lot of celebs in this one huh. My only gripe with all this new doctor stuff is its earth earth earth, i hope when pipers gone things will change if the replacement is male Marc Warren would be a good choice imo but it is most likely to be female huh
Tenebrae
I found the description of Peter Kay's alien persona as "panto" to be very accurate. I don't mind the occasional moment of comedy but, it didn't do much for me. And yes, we've been out of Earth's solar system... twice? And one of those times was to go to "New Earth"... I think Satan Pit was really the only time when it felt like they were in an alien environment.
Antilles
A typically funny Peter Kay moment for me was when the Doctor asked if he was from Raxicoricofalipatorious and he said he was from the twin planet so the Doctor tried a funny and asked if it was called 'Raxicoricofalipatorion' and he said "No, 'Klom'," lmao! Antilles
Yes right at the end when the Doctor turns up to save Elton! I dont think he expected Rax's twin planet to have such a short name lol
Potato
I thought he simply asked what the name of Raxicoricofalipatorious' twin was. I'll rewatch just to see.
