Guest c4evap
There's a Borg time travel thread that's going off topic :p (guilty!) soooooooo...this thread is for ALL THINGS RELATED TO STAR TREK TIME TRAVEL INCONSISTENCIES. Whew! So, rant and rave here about anything time travel related...go off topic...who cares? No rules (except "be excellent to each other"). Note to fellow mods: If you delete my thread, you will be destroyed! :o c4 :cyclops:
TFMF
Also guilty ;) and as tempting as it is to delete this thread - i don't have power in this forum :( But anyway - where were we - ah yes - Kira going back in time to see if her mother and Dukat really were a lovers well she was interacting with many people in her visit so it seems that she may have caused some change to the future
Guest c4evap
Well, we have to take into account how many of the people she interacted with survived the occupation. I suppose there's really no way to know that. And...you would really delete this thread if you had THE POWER in this section? COSSACK! ;) c4 :cyclops:
TFMF
Yeah i suppose - but Kira was very close to killing Dukat i better not see you in the Stargate forums! ;) :D
Guest c4evap
She sure was! I felt sorry for him though when his jr. officer killed his daughter. I was so surprised when he did nothing about it. Weird. BTW: You won't find me in the Stargate forum section. I only post in the sections that discuss good scifi. :cyclops: c4 :p
TFMF
Oh yes Ziyal's death was really sad - watching DS9 i could never find out whether Dukat was telling the truth about whether he regretted the occupation of Bajor - if he really was - then perhaps Kira killing Dukat would have made a big change during the Dominion War - perhaps Cardassia would never have joined the Dominion - or perhaps thing would have been much worse.... Kira took a big risk.... And i'll remind you that you moderated the Stargate forums once - remember? :D
Guest c4evap
I had hoped he was sincere about his regret over the occupation but I doubt it. His actions with the Pa Wraiths (spelling?) kinda shows that (I believe). I agree...Kira did take a big risk. She might have made things much worse. Yes...I was indeed a mod at one time in the Stargate forum...but that was before the show went downhill. It was then I decided to bail... ;) j/k c4 WHOOT! :cyclops:
TFMF
well there were several things that made me think he may have been telling the truth i mean he was really caring with Ziyal - he sacraficed his position just to be with her In the episode Kira went back in time we did seem him show small acts of kindness There were other things i can't remember right now but there were numerour things to show he did really hate Bajor If Kira had killed him - it's possible his replacement would have been much crueler (if Dukat truly did feel sympathy toward them) to the Bajorans - maybe the occupation would have lasted longer. spose this is just speculation  Well i've seen up to season 9 of SG-1 - here that's where it goes downhill.... Tenebrae
Uh, SG-1 started going down hill when Jonas came onboard. Anyway, Dukat is too busy bouncing between good and evil to worry about time travel. I'd have thought Trek is most guilty of the fact that the effect of time travel varies alot. Sometimes people have memories of events that happen, sometimes they don't. Sometimes alternate time-lines are entirely erased including everything that existed from them and sometimes things/people/badgers survive. Won't people think of the time badgers? Three cheers for the badgers! Sadly, you are correct. The effects of Trek time travel do vary way too much. Perhaps if the writers had kept their noses to the grind stone and followed a set of "rules" things might have been "cleaner". At any rate...I still enjoy all those time travel EPs. Even if I must super suspend my bisbelief to cherrish the illusion! Uh' date=' SG-1 started going down hill when Jonas came onboard.[/quote'] Oh man, I dislike that character! c4 B)
Tenebrae
I think Trek just knows that everyone enjoys a bit of the ol' time travel... and so long as it's done well, I'm ok with it. I agree that they should have "rules" as regards time travel but then, that would mean the kind of continuity that Trek has never really shown any serious interest in. TFMF
Some time travel episodes can be really good - like Timeless or year of Hell - but like year of hell had the big reset button at the end... Jonas never bothered me that much - wasn't on the show that long anyway... TetsuoShima
Hmm, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to make a list of all episodes in star trek where some form of 'time meddling' is involved... :) Maybe I'll make a list if I can find the time and mood. :p
Tenebrae
Young fool, with each moment you become... Oops, sorry just reminescing. Anyway, I am your Google master and hence was - in the space of 7 of your Earth seconds - able to save you the trouble. Google before you leap. That's my motto. Looks to be about 55 of 'em. VOY: 13 ENT: 12 TNG: 11 DS9: 10 TOS: 5 Films: 3 TAS: 1 Given that ENT was only (was it 96?) 96 episodes long... that means that a whopping 12.5% of episodes were time travel orientated... or had some element of time traveltivity in them. Fifty five is a LOT, really. It must mean that as far as plot devices go - it surpasses even the Romulans and Klingons... COMBINED ;) Things like Year From Hell which just have someone going DEJA VU?! At the end are a bit weak... except maybe All Good Things... which I love too dearly to ever really be hard on. TetsuoShima
Hey niiice. I should have known though that such a list would be out there allready. (memory-alpha is a great site :) ) But yeah, that is more then I would have expected. And yes: All Good Things is one of the best episodes made. :)
TFMF
I suppose ENT is the biggest abuser of time-travel - 12 episodes in 4 seasons :p
Tenebrae
Don't underestimate the power of the DARK SIDE! I wasn't too surprised. I also found a site dedicated to the analysis of time travel in films. All three Star Trek time travel films featured.
