spooner303
Why in Star Trek (especially), and in other Sci Fi programming have the people of earth moved away from the perfect cube box for storage and opted for some bizarre dodecahedron that doesn't stack as steadily, holds less of whatever is being stored? is there a scientific reason for this huge leap backward in thinking? GorunNova
My guess? Non-cube boxes are pretty, and in the future Star Trek envisions aesthetics trumps practicality every time.

TFMF
Because, when the ship shakes, they needs things to fly around the room. How else can they do that without using containers that 'doesn't stack as steadily' ;D But really, the producers just want to make things look more futuristic/alien. vystral
Because it reminds them too much of Borg ships? For real! ;D The Borg got it right. Their efficient shape sort of mirrors their attitude towards things, though.
