BorisP
Stopped in the Military Budget thread and it says it was closed. That was weird. What happened? It had wandered off topic from the thread title but so do most threads. I think that truth and accuracy are important to a person's world view. Science fiction people are usually the smarter people in society. They have one weakness though. They don't know a whole lot about real life. This is a problem because you cannot make accurate decisions or predictions based on faulty information. I think the reason that we are not in space right now is because science people have blinders on when it comes to reality. How the world really works and where it is headed right now and why it is headed in that direction. Even if it causes disagreement, I think it is better to reach some accurate ideas about the reality around us. Science people think politics has nothing to do with Science or Science Fiction. That is wrong. Who do you think pays for the rockets and space stations and satellites? The politicians do. If you are a science fiction guy, you might be making plans about the space station or a colony on the moon. But if you learn politics, you come to understand that politicians don't do things because they are right or neat or cool. Politicians do things out of greed. By talking about politics here or any other subject, we can gain a more realistic view of the possibilities for science and science fiction. An extreme example would be science fiction types protesting about war because they want the war money to be spent on a space station. Lots of people would say scientists should not be protesting. But if they don't, the money is going to bombs and guns, not the space station. By talking politics, even if it gets hot, we all learn more about how life really works and how we can support our interest in science more effectively. mcant
Sorry if you disagreed, but as I started the topic i felt responsible for it. ] it had wandered way off topic and was turning into a pantomime anti american/isreal rant, which was never going to end well, it was going to be endless pages of Oh yes you did/Oh no we didn't arguements and no one was going to change their mind Anyway i think the original poll had run its course, most voted to spend the money on the Space program
