cheerup
As I mentioned elsewhere I'm a total newbie when it comes to the Doctor. I watched Rose while I stayed in London and I liked it. Now I discovered that there is loads and loads of history to catch up. Where should I start ... what should I really try to get my hands on?!? Thanks in advance
BorisP
The Tom Baker Doctor Who shows should be the most enjoyable. They were some of the later shows in color. I think he was the best Dr.
cheerup
thanks ... I've started with eps. 75-79. What else is worth a try?!?
coolcat13
Pertwees stuff is also very good and should give you a good feel for the show and I would really recomend watching the later Dr's just to get caught up to speed . if there were two Davison Dr who episodes to watch they would be the 5 doctors and Earthshock .Both of those were awesome
Antilles
Yer not kidding youve got some history to catch up on, but dont try to take it all in too fast, relax, its been around since 1963 and itll continue to be around. Go to the main classic BBC Dr Who website and take it from there, theres plenty info on every Doctor, companion, characters, monsters etc, nice cross referencing and basically enough to keep you occupied until Ecclestons regeneration, oh no hang on itll take longer than that! :-) Welcome to the world of Who...Enjoy! ze0ro
cheerup...start at the beginning. An Unearthly Child. Then follow through all the way to today. While you can start with a "favourite" doctor, I think it's best to start where it started, so you can truly appreciate the continuity and flow the series has taken since it began in 1963. cheerup
I've always been a big fan of beginning at the very start ... BUT isn't it very hard to find the very first episodes ...
ze0ro
I've got TV rips of every complete first and second doctor story when they were on Space: The Imagination Station about a decade back. If you can be patient, I'll upload them to www.demonoid.com (I am not uploading here anymore because there's no banning of leechers) when demonoid returns. :)

cheerup
sounds reasonable ... how about you tell me the real essentials episodeswise from each doctor and I give it a try ... I can also start the collection on the very beginning and watch the other episodes (even those that stink:D ) later on ...
Antilles
Ok essential stories Id say are good to watch Hartnell - Dalek Invasion Of Earth Hartnell - The War Machines Troughton - Seeds Of Death Troughton - Tomb Of The Cybermen Pertwee - Spearhead From Space Pertwee - The Green Death Tom Baker - Robot Tom Baker - Terror Of The Zygons Difficult to choose from so many stories, but these I enjoy very much as opposed to some of their other stories. But if you can catch stories involving Daleks and at least 1 regeneration youll do fine! Spearhead from Space & Robot are both Pertwees and Bakers premiere stories and both very good even tho we dont physically see Troughton turn into Pertwee but we do see him in a normal Earth hospital coping with his new face and body! Again in Robot Pertwee turns into Baker and he becomes very eccentric in nature....actually that ecentricity kinda lasted 8 years hehe!
Ulysses
dont forget tom bakers genesis of the darleks either
