the6ofpopes
I just finished playing around on Google maps & must say it's a excellent new free feature, hopefully everyone's city is viewable, go check & see. I did some nice captures of my house & surrounding area, NASA's World Wind program is better but you do have to download a 171MB program to use it, you can get NASA's via direct download or via your BT client, just visit the download page to get the torrent. http://maps.google.com/ http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/ Thought I better add this from the NASA site in case you don't see it. System Requirements * Windows 2000, XP Home, or XP Professional * Intel Pentium 3, 1 GHz, or AMD Athlon or higher * 256 MB of RAM * 3D Graphics Card o nVidia GeForce 2 Ultra o ATI Radeon 7500 o Intel Extreme Graphics 2 * DSL / Cable connection or faster * 2 GB of disk space Notes World Wind benefits most from a video card with 3D acceleration. If you don't know whether your machine comes with one, it is likely to have one built in if the computer was purchased within the past two years. Here is a list of video cards that have been reported to work with World Wind. World Wind requires that you have .NET runtime environment and DirectX installed. You can download .NET runtime environment and DirectX runtime. World Wind comes with data you can zoom into. After a certain point, World Wind will begin to download more images automatically. The servers hosting this information are very busy and may be unresponsive until we get the necessary infrastructure. Have fun!!!
Oma
It's just so damn hard to find Denmark on a world map consisting of ONLY USA!
Weyoun
It's just so damn hard to find Denmark on a world map consisting of ONLY USA! Didn't you know, the rest of the world was blown up by bush, and now when you go around the world, you get back to the U.S, with only water in between. ;) The worldwind program is world wide anyway. Oma
Thanks - I'd just given up after google didn't provide. EDIT: And now I just realized I don't have 3D-graphics card....
the6ofpopes
HaHa I never even thought to look any further than Canada & US on the Google map didn't realize that was it. Maybe all other satellite shots are classified by the US military, they haven't any troops left in NA there all out looking for Bin Ladin. Wouldn't want to give away troop locations.......not that it seems to matter. :p :p :p
Symok
Hmm... they don't have a satelite image of my area. I'm in Windsor, the only place (ex Alaska of course) where Canada is actually South of the United States. They do have images that are really close. It looks really odd seing both images right beside eachother ~_~
mcant
Is the quality good enough to make out your military installations? Because I can think of a few groups who might like that feature
vyper
They're a bit hard to miss even without satellite imaging.
czernyman
All satellites are monitered by the government. They know who's satellite is going where, and when.
the6ofpopes
The military also censors what images are allowed to be seen by the public. Big Brother's always doing his job, keeping us safe!!

Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength." Big Brother is watching. Brownie points to whoever can place the quote. (And double brownie points to anyone who knows the Star Trek episode where the source in question was referenced, and what the reference was)

I won't get double brownie points though. Can't tell you right off hand the Star Trek Episode.

That quote wasn't referenced - But there is a scene in the book which is very similar (so similar I assumed ever since I read it I assumed it must be a reference to this) scence in Trek. Although the characters' reactions in the sceneces are different. I'll wait a day or two then post the answer if noone figures it out.
