If they do its only one soul shared, after all you can cut them in two and both halves survive

so it must be one big shared soul. except on that reasoning the original may not have died and its soul's still shared all over?

close your eyes

imagine (bad word but will have to do) you have no body, and as result no senses.

you cannot see, hear, taste, touch or smell.

Didn't have to imagine. Experienced it once with a purified dose of a potent, over-the-counter dissociative. Nothing like experiencing nothingness, total disconnect from the body, from space, from time, such voidness that there is no space to have empty space, no events, no sequence, thus no time.

Tripping on the thought "All we have is the moment, the here and now - all else is delusion." Then I realized that there was no "here" and no "now." Utterly awesome - could have been a real screamer, though, if I'd let it panic me.

elderbear - mind at large

sounds interesting, but what if you left your thoughts behind.

i haveread people wondering about their "conciousness" continuing after they die. i dont belive that could happen, because their conciousness no longer exists as it is based on the conciousness being supported by the brain.

what i believe occurs is the "potential" continues alone. i believe this is independant of thought because thought is only possible with a brain to think it and thought is based on perception and experience.

so if you try my little exercise imagine your thouhts disappear too.

what you are left with is an awareness. then imagine the awareness exists without conciousness.

i think thats what i was drivin at though not too clearly

i dunno id like to think that there is something else after this....heaven??? hell???? i think you will recieve in the afterlife as you have given here...there are too many ppl who have had near death experiences and told the same stories for it not to have some reality to it...id hate to think that everytime someone dies that the entire sum of a livetime of experiences just disappears.

There are a few cool movies about that subject!

A few I can't remember the name of but in one of them it's a movie ABOUT people making a movie recording of someone's "death" - their inner experience, their past life and all experiences and so on flashing before them - very cool.

Meet Joe Black and What Dreams May Come and a new movie called Indigo also takes a leap at the subject.

Can be mindgobbling and intriguing to check out!

Truly mindblowing (as in blows all the fuses). Came close a few times in some meditation sessions - but then started thinking about the experience of awareness!

And, if I ever really get to that state, I'm sure that afterwards, there won't be words to describe it!

no fuses blown tho. i just figure thats the way meditation is supposed to work.

but do you think that what is left is the prescenceof something non physical. thats what im curious about

From my experiences, thoughts and awareness are not contained in the mind. The soul is small compared to the size of the body, but can store vast amounts of knowledge from life experiences, which makes you think and act the way you do. You will take that with you to the next stage. It's called learning while you were here.

It's an awesome experience to know you can separate from this body and go anywhere you want just by thinking of it. So overwhelming in fact that I chose not to explore.. just knowing I could was enough. And at that time, I was fully aware of who I was and where I was.

I can believe everyone is connected in thought, but in this body it is too much to handle, a jumble of noise that cannot be singled out (painful, deafening buzzing sounds) so those thoughts are shut out and we have to speak by voice. I had a dream the other week where I realized this. My teeth were clenched since I was upset at some people, and I spoke to them with thought, and they replied the same way.

Maybe this life is just the dream and when the time is right, you will wakeup from it and return to the real.

Interesting pointers Wahaha.

CWG states that soul actually "contains" the body" - that whole chapter (CWG book 3) is btw. extremely interesting!

I've had sort of some experiences of different things myself but I can't based on what I know state or say anything about this particular subject that I haven't already said.

i remember the one you are talking about...it was flatliners....hmmm would be a good one to post here if anyone had a copy.....http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099582/

Yes, I believe it is! Thank you very much for finding that movie!! (I would never have found it on my own)

Ah, dammit - now I HAVE to go and get my tea - it's been waiting in the kitchen for like 30 minutes or so!! I would never have imagined that I would ever participate this much in a forum ever!?

(Well of course I did but not really - see the paradox?)

:D

Tea time and TNG episode of the day!

One possibility (I've been wanting to write this for a while but everytime forgotten about it but here it comes):

If we assume that the "new age" talks about all being one is correct, I think souls would work the same way as "The Dominion" in DS9. When we're done playing the game (dead) perhaps the conscienceness / mind / thoughts / experiences or in other ways the essence of the "soul" returns to the great whole and this INDIVIDUATION (as you or I am now) will cease to exist and all experiences and so on are returned to the "pool" - just like when Odo returned with all that was him and shared it with the other Founders lying as One in the "Great Link" and then ceased to be.

I think it's worth pondering - now I'm not totally satisfied with explaining my thought process about this possibility but I think you'll understand how I mean it.

(This was based on a lot of different ideas about how things work and I used DS9 as reference just because it's so similar)

I like CWG (www.cwg.org) "Conversations With God" because much of it makes so much sense and is obvious at least to me. Check it out (The books that is)!

Just to put my twopenn'th in, and I don't care if you hate me for it. I believe that "Religion is the crutch that some people need to justify their existance."

Why has no-one realised that the biggest, or longest, thing you will ever do is LIVE?

How many times have people said that life is too short to hold a grudge or whatever?

It's true!!!!!

I & We will be dead a lot longer than we are alive!

Forget religion, forget problems, live life to the full!

YOU WON'T GET A SECOND CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally i've always been one to believe we live in a almost 'fictional' world. Just a mental projection of an collective mind, and that we all live in unity beyond the realms of what we perceive to be our existence here.

I almost see it as a entity which is all of us.. its hard to explain. Im not religious, well i dont believe in much of the 'big' religious faiths, but i do think everyone believes in something. They have to accept something in order to continue living their lives.

Theres certainly something that makes us what we are, a sentience, a great awareness of our own existence. When you see a cow in a field, does it really know it exists? or does it know no different?

I think we are very special as we will keep on questioning our existence, but that makes me wonder, what if.. what if we found out, would that be the end?

Im just throwing my mind around, please dont flame me for my comments im simply trying to join in :P

Why has no-one realised that the biggest, or longest, thing you will ever do is LIVE?

I sit in my cubicle, here on the motherworld.

When I die, they will put my body in a box and

dispose of it in the cold ground.

And in all the million ages to come, I will never

breathe or laugh or twitch again.

So won't you run and play with me here among the

teeming mass of humanity?

The universe has spared us this moment.

I love this poem. Now, if only I had the courage to live...

EDIT: I mean live life to the fullest, not "I have some sleeping-pills...."
