VonHelton Posted April 9, 2005 Share Posted April 9, 2005 The latest issue of Starburst magazine, just out in the UK, features an exclusive interview with STAR TREK ENTERPRISE star Scott Bakula ('Captain Archer'), in which he talks once again about the cancellation of the show. Here are a few excerpts : "It was very emotional." Bakula told journalist Dave Waldon about the filming of the final episode, "These Are The Voyages..." "There were lots of tears. A lot of people had been here for 18 years, so a lot of people were saying goodbye. We'd only been here for four years. We were the short-terms." In the past, Bakula has made no secret of his feelings that UPN didn't support or promote ENTERPRISE. I think BitTorrent is the future of international TV viewing; there are so many shows that people are able to view while others can't at the same time. For example, I uploaded all the eps of Invasion Iowa (even though I could only achieve medium quality), and it's had over 2000 downloads worldwide. That's a good feeling, sharing with the world, knowing that someone that wants to see the show in, say, Denmark and would have to wait months to see it otherwise, can use this technology to get it. And in return, if, say, Doctor Who (of which I am also a great fan) had returned 10 years ago, I would have had to wait for it to air on PBS to see it. So I am very grateful for the uploads of those torrents. It is because of this that people don't have to wait for network deals to be made, and I see nothing wrong with it. None of us are making money from this. We're a community and we're all about sharing. That's why BitTorrent works. Very Star Trek-like. I know this was a bit off topic but I just wanted to get my point across that nobody on this site will starve for Enterprise, no matter where they live... werecow Posted April 11, 2005 Share Posted April 11, 2005 i must agree with the previous post...many great television shows are world wide now that wouldnt have been if it wasnt for bittorrent...the mainstream better unstick their crainal-rectal inversion problem and accept the fact that tv isnt the only media that ppl use for entertainment. if they would post a free bt of the shows they have with commercials on a 100mb server for bt they could get their advertising in and even offre a premiun service for ppl without the ads. i for one appreciate the fine international programming that i have seen through bittorrent,,,how many ppl have seen ReGenesis outside of Canadians? well me for one...great show that i never would have known existed were it not for b/t ...ok ill get down off my soap box....for now... bbbb Posted April 17, 2005 Share Posted April 17, 2005 It's sad about Bakula and ENT. He did a great job on Arhcer, except for the swearing. Janeway wasn't nearly as commanding as Archer. Trip should have been his first officer though, not T'Pol, who was herself completely inadequate. She is popular not for her "unemotional vulcan calm", or "logic" but for her looks. Web-based subscription TV is the future. We all use BT for free now, much to the annoyance of network bigwigs, but just as companies are coming round to seeing online MP3's as a valid avenue for the music industry they will see that global web distribution for TV will become a major factor - the downside will be it will no longer be free, but as its direct revenue into the program makers maybe not such a bad thing. If someone offered to do a 5th enterprise season and released the first few on BT to subscribers (where you paid somewhere between $1-3 for the torrent file) wouldn't you pay if it meant that doing so provided money for further episodes. If enough people subscribed to them they'd make more episodes. We are seeing this with some music bands and fans are opting to use the pay downloads offerred by the band rather than search for free sites. reddishes Posted April 19, 2005 Share Posted April 19, 2005 My brother used a web service for a while that he paid to download a movie and after a certain time it became unwatchable. I am not sure how it was done, but that would be the way to go with the tv shows if they wanted to sell them as BT downloads. If they did this with Enterprise, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
