GeneralLee
GeneralLee that is why i suggest that if there are going to be meet ups they be done at pre-existing cons .Since I am sure that many here already go to places like GenCon or DragonCon etc they could meet up at those places at least here in the States . Don't know what Cons there are overseas . I understand where you and others are coming from, believe me I do. About the CONS you mentioned, (GenCon & DragonCon) I have no idea what they are about. I've seen a few posts about worries (they may be jokingly saying what they did) about the MPAA, and I wanna go "huh"? How would they (the MPAA) know anything about this, or about what we do or may have planned? I thinks it's cool that you and others, may go to "Cons" now and then (I'm surprised that after all these years they are still referred to as those). I used to go to comic book and model rocket conventions years ago (about 30 years ago), and have been to a small time Star Trek based one once. Don't get me wrong now, I think the idea is brilliant, I'm just not sure if the logistics would be practical for most anyone to be able to pull off. mcant
plotting the geographics, I think meeting up on Ascention island would be fairest for all :( local meeting would be interesting (sounds like a good excuse for a disk swapping session) Other possible ideas would be net conferencing of some sort or maybe an online game sometime, I know most of the jedi games have cracked servers or lol even go on an empty Call of duty server for a chat
Soulreaper
Now, don't blow this up to unrealistic proportions. A smaller "mini-con" or get2gether would probably max out around 100 or so people at most (well we have around 20000 members, but only a small portion of those are somewhat FORUM active and only a smaller portion of these half-actives would be interested in doing something at all) I'm all in for whatever that may come from this but as I stated above I never thought EVERYONE would want to or try to attend :D so that's NOT going to be a problem (obviously). So don't doom the idea in advance, aight? There are several options on HOW to handle things and organize etc. once we have a good idea about what we can do as a large group or as a smaller group. I'd certainly do whatever I can to be able to say hi to Elderbear, Nite and anyone else interested in doing something cool (+ watch movies, chat around, see places etc). - In addition to my earlier post. So keep voting, keep posting! Good job people! - and... stay on topic!
sloany
I would go to a con but I stay in the uk so it would cost a fortune to get there and get a hotel room.
meeee
I'm in canada, going back to europe in a couple months. Making it to one of these cons is, well, like said earlier... Anybody have a transporter???
psheldrake1
Anybody think of a Video Con. We can get together in groups/areas and con that way. Most of us have web cams so I don't see a problem. We'll just need a general link.
eRRoRz
No cash, and my transporter is broken... From now on, only people with CASH reply. :cyclops:
Vektram
Wouldn't a NiteCON be a perfect hunting ground for the MPAA? Sorry to be a party-stopper
Soulreaper
hm we have 400 views and only 50 votes so far - interesting. Well, we've already been through that issue - which shouldn't obviously BE an issue unless (like they did in Sweden) we have "spies" around here working in secret for the MPIAA :D Don't get scared away now... StevenofNine
Love to come if it's within a day's drive of me, here in North Texas. Otherwise, family business keeps me local.

Sorry to be a party-stopper  If it were a private function, they'd be trespassing ... sorry officer, this trespasser was agitated, making threats, and acting bizarre. We were in fear for our lives - it was clearly a case of self-defense ...
zyxon
Well this modern age, we can see each other on a cam 'concam' good idea or not ------- ?
elderbear
Well this modern age' date=' we can see each other on a cam 'concam' good idea or not ------- ?[/quote'] I'm surprised I didn't think to make that a poll option. ConCam would be better than nothing ... but it would be fun to actually meet some folks in meatspace.
Gamer98
I think with most people all over the world and alot have broadband what if we just created a room on like yahoo chat or maybe thru MSN messanger and used webcams and microphones?
tinpusher
here is my $.02 worth. I think that the idea of planning a combination of local get togethers AND webcams/microphones would be the best way to go. It would just take a little coordination. That way there could be several going on simultaneously with cams/microphones and viewers at each location. We could synchronize by having all the get togethers synchronized to meet at a certain time UTC that way eveyone is meeting at the same "time." Is this explanation too vague? Soulreaper
Sure, but that's not all that different from this forum. Elderbear, my thoughts exactly - the whole point was actually "meatspace" or "meet-space" if you will :D
Gamer98
meat space would be good but does anyone live close to anyone?

This is good, I've heard of it before, lots of synchronised meetings broadcast at once, sometimes in a pub with a laptop  yep thats the one i'm at
GeneralLee
couldnt we use team speak or wont that work? i know they use it for online gaming but wondered if it works just over the net Yes, it does. I am not a gamer, yet I have it installed and use it now and then for that very purpose. Also, MSNMessenger, and many others, have speech options, as you well know.
