BorisP
Do you believe human beings have energy? Why or why not? Can you provide an example of why or why not? What kinds of things does this energy do or what kind of phenomenon does it account for? ------------ I think people do have energy. I think so because I see the effects every day. Example. Rub your hands together for a long time until they get hot. Do it for awhile, like 5 minutes at least. Do this while you are somewhere quiet, maybe dark and relaxed. Dont tense your hands. Rub them together and keep them relaxed. Seperate your palms about an inch or so. Move them close to and away from each other or in counter circles to each other. You should feel something sort of like a magnet. You know how magnets fight each other when you push them together? You should get a feeling like that in your hands. I think energy can tell people when someone is looking at them or thinking about them. That is why they tell you not to think bad thoughts. If the person you are thinking about is sensitive, they will know that you are thinking bad about them. Energy can tell you if someone is close to you or following you. It can be used to make people healthy or sick. Energy can be used to control other people. It is like someone stealing a remote control airplane with another remote control. It is possible to tell if people are healthy or sick if you can see their energy. Energy makes it possible to predict where people are going. Lots and lots and lots of stuff. elderbear
Do you believe human beings have energy? Why or why not? Can you provide an example of why or why not? What kinds of things does this energy do or what kind of phenomenon does it account for? Yes. Human beings have chemical, electrical, kinetic, and potential energy. But I think it's better to stick with "chi" for what you're talking about. Why? Because "energy" already has a rigorous scientific definition. Using the word to refer to more subtle phenomena keeps them from being taken seriously in scientific circles. Until chi can be mathematically quantified and experimentally measured/sensed and found to follow the generally accepted behavior of physical energy, calling it "energy" confuses the issue. Call it chi, aura, mojo, blue-fairy-fire, shec - anything but a word already well-defined and in general usage. The hand-rubbing phenomenon is frequently explained away as an effect of friction, suggestion, and nerve-exhaustion/overload. But it's fun to play with - and as one becomes more aware of the experience, one can frequently have experiences where friction ceases to explain anything ... Oma
The energy I know of that is everywhere within us is ATP.
Soulreaper
Yep a variety of "energies" exist - I'll use that loosely. For an instance, I can sense when someone is in the house or not (of course without actually seeing or hearing someone entering or leaving) because it just feels different and I think the same goes as for how "up and running" someones psyche is as well - test it yourself by being up and around while everybody is sound asleep. Perhaps on the other hand, this "phenomenon" is caused by other subtle things that we're only aware of on a subcontious level, I can't tell, at least not as of yet. People staring, is sensable even without looking. Ever felt when a room becomes ICE COLD when gigantic negative feelings muster up? Perhaps this also is another "phenomenon" which could be caused by subconscious triggers like pheromones, scent particles, subconscious body language, etc. as well? I can only explain these and others like it as "energy" phenomenons existing however based on the above it could also just mean subtle things we "know" on an unaware level but can't explain or theorize just yet. starscream
think of our energy as bio-electric energy....and remember The Matrix...
lamp
all animals emit a small electrical field. Sharks have a cool sixth sense of being able to detect this. if we also have an ability is open to debate.
Yossarian75
Interesting thread As a martial arts practitioner I have been studying the cultivation and use of Chi for several years. The martial arts community is firmly divided on whether or not Chi actually exists. Personally I am unsure whether it is an actual energy or just 'mind over matter'. I have seen some very impressive feats over the years which are attributed to the use of Chi, eg iron shirt- some one takes full force blows to vulnerable areas(kidney, grion, throat) without any damage or pain. Traditional Chinese medicine is based on the flow of energy through the body. The Chinese believed that you would die if this energy run out and blockages etc caused illness. This kind of medicine has proven effective in treating minor ailments. I think the reason we can tell when somone is watching us is evolutionary. It could be an instinct our ancestors evolved to protect themselves from predators. Perhaps the subconsous picks up on subtle signals you would not normally notice. There is an interesting exersise you can do. One person is blindfolded, another walks around them and randomly hits them(softly). The blindfolded person will eventually start to block the hits. The weird thing is they tend to block the fist time you try and strike the groin(how do they know?).
BorisP
sure chi exists. The guys that say it don't are either trying to protect themselves from being taken for a practical joke, or they are trying to stop people from learning.
