NiteShdw
Isn't there anything else you guys can talk about in here? Until further notice, any new threads that get started or otherwise brings up the useless debates that have recently been locked will just be deleted. I'm not trying to CENSOR anything, you can continue your debate in PMs if you wish, but it's getting out of hand. The posting rules CLEARLY state that you are to be curtious to other users and respect their opinions. We all have our own opinions, but this is a Sci-Fi site, not a religious or moral site. Please, let's try to keep the discussions more relevant.
c0g
Sorry boss. I think it's just growing pains for this forum though, and hopefully only a stage in the development of real community. Who knows, maybe the Trek future starts right here with us figuring out how to share our differences openly while still building community around a central theme of unity... mcant
I have a totally radical idea! Why don't we talk about science fiction books, films, tv series and concepts?

Though I never bothered to read them, I was getting a little bothered by the polls about polls that were about other polls. :p  terribly sorry, i did not mean to offend anyone, stir up trouble or cause any hard feelings... i started the poll about the poll as a joke and i hope that other people would see it that way as things were getting out of hand and actually pretty redundant as it was nothing but the same arguement back and forth...you are right this is a sci-fi site/forum and it should remain as such...ten foward being a place for casual discussion...not a place to rant about moral beliefs, political beliefs and any other thing that would cause such "out of hand" discussions i will apologize to you also nite as i was just trying to show by satire how i felt that whole "thing" had gone on way too long... my humble apologies to all....(bows deeply)

BorisP
We all want to be one big happy herd. ;) You ever notice how people need to control things? You will be so much happier when you can ignore stuff. People going overboard in a thread? Yawn. People get excited. Got any popcorn? People yelling and screaming. Got the newspaper? Different cultures around the world are different. Duh. In western cultures it is common to ignore things or pretend we didn't hear it. In other cultures, they believe in confronting things. That is why I talk the way I do. If people have differences, if they hide them they will always have differences. Nothing ever gets resolved. But if they talk to each other, no matter how heated or confrontational, eventually things get worked out. People understand each other. The internet is great for that because no one can get physical. All they can do is yell at the monitor. In some kung fu movie I just watched these guys are telling their buddy he is ugly. That is harsh right? I can hear people crying "Oh they are so mean". But the way they think? It is better to accept reality. The guy says "Am I really ugly" and they all say "ya you are really ugly". But then they go right ahead and treat him like he is still their buddy. Instead of whispering behind their hands and making jokes about how ugly he is, they just say it right to each others face. Makes them very strong. Sure it hurts in the beginning. Doesn't everything though?

In other cultures, they believe in confronting things. That is why I talk the way I do. If you go to the 'continent' poll you'll see that the majority is belonging to western cultures.....sooo..."When in Rome..."! If people have differences, if they hide them they will always have differences. Nothing ever gets resolved. But if they talk to each other, no matter how heated or confrontational, eventually things get worked out. People understand each other. The internet is great for that because no one can get physical. All they can do is yell at the monitor. To me arguing over something isn't just about changing others ideas and viewpoints (though I'd like that!) - it's also getting to know where you stand. Once you realize that you cannot change their thoughts you can call it a standoff and avoid wasting energy debating it further.

Soulreaper
Some people seem uninclined to take on other stuff other than PURE trek / scifi but isn't really all the other currently "censored" things part of it as well? Life is a pretty big subject and science is actually about Life and science fiction being about science well... ;) I have to agree with Cog concerning that it all might start "here". It's as good a place as any.. Usually..people always want someone else to start, take the first step or whatever concerning that subject. It's ok if someone ELSE does it, takes charge, make change. Don't forget, we're all that someone else so don't diminish your own individual impact ever. bbbb
I agree Nite. Keep discussions to only sci-fi, no religious or homosexuality stuff. May our site provide a future for Star Trek.
NiteShdw
I'm not trying to say that you can't talk about whatever topics you want. What I am saying is that those discussion must follow the rules, namely being curtious, kind, and respectful. Any thread that degrades into personal attacks will be locked or deleted.
