Antilles
I remember him as a child in the 70s-80s when he played Professor Quatermass in the TV mini-series and his portrayal was burned into my brain as being fantastic, almost Dr Who like, this old scientist with great knowledge of thiings un-earthly. 97 is a damned good age tho. He could easily have been cast as an early Who. Hed ave got my vote.
mcant
I had the pleasure of meeting him once, he was the epitome of good manners, respect, kindness, modesty and self deprecation, all the things which at one time defined the English gentleman, a role he lived rather than played Probably one of the last of a sadly dying breed From the very brief aquaintance I had with him I think he would enjoy the epitaph "he was cool"
DoctorWhoops
RIP Sir John, I too loved his Quatermass, and his Captain Scott, and his performance in Ryans Daughter. I agree that he would've made a great Doctor. He was one of those actor's who never put a foot wrong. One of the last of Britain's golden era of Actors.
