MrLapage
Is Space: 1999 worth downloading? It looks mildly intriguing, but am I going to get too distracted by tasteless low-quality special effects? Maybe I should mention that I'm not seriously distracted by TOS effects, but the Hitchhiker's Guide BBC series is pushing it... well, at least Zaphod's extra head is. So anyway, should I slow down Season 4 of TNG to try a few episodes? This show isn't a comedy in any way, is it? I wish it was...
chrisis1033
Space: 1999 is a very acquired taste. I was a sci-fi fanatic in my youth but I couldn't stand this series. If the torrent allows' date=' try downloading the first couple of episodes, and try them out.[/quote']\ Yep thats quite right. I enjoy it but ceratinly not everyone does. Infact some people even like one of the seasons and not the other. I prefer season 1 but others hate it and really enjoy season 2. If you decide to watch them you will see what I mean. I think season 1 was made in the UK and season 2 was made in the US and focused more on trying to appeal to the US audience with a bigger budget and Hollywood studios... (I could be wrong here but thats what I recall) Season 1 is a bit more science fiction focused and season 2 is a bit more adventure and action focus (animal chick).. thats my two cents worth... I like both but perfer season1.
BorisP
I liked it. It is more of a serious kind of sci fi show. The special effects are cheesy but not B movie bad. I liked martin landau. It has a....english drama feel to it. More intellectual I thought. It has a funny premise. Earth was storing radioactive waste on the moon. The waste blew up and the moon took off. Jeez. Does anyone even talk about going to the moon in serious terms anymore? And what happened to the nuclear debate that used to be such a hot topic when this show was created? spooner
I loved it but I'm into all the retro stuff anyway, it's my age. I don't like like getting to deep into these things you should just enjoy it for what it is a bit of fun, pure escapism. TV programmes are there to entertain. I think whether you enjoy "SPACE 1999" or not will probably come down in the end to your age.
Number1
somehow the 60's seemed classier than the 70's
isaacc
It is one of my favorite series and a series of my youth. Season 1 is much better than season two. It is a British Gerry Anderson series from the 70's. It used state of the art special effects for the time using models and optical effects. I thing they still stand up, considering, and was better than anything else till Star Trek TNG started. It was made mainly for American syndication. One of the main producers thought the second series needed more monsters for the US audience so it went down hill from there. I highly recommend it. Love those Eagles. Ulysses
Yup season one was quite good, eposiodes like the black sun. Martin Landau only got the part as they wanted it to appeal to the american viewers hence why they put a american in charge of the station. The modelling of the eagles where good, always remembered having a toy one (damn I wished i kept it now lol). Certainly it did have the scope to go on for long abeit a poor season 2. pklbryj
I've been watching season 1 and enjoying it for its creepy horror flavor. It frequently disappoints in the story and logic department, but there are some genuinely atmospheric moments to be found throughout. Sometimes the acting is ham salad too, but even so it's worth a look. See the star of "Deadwood" turn his co-workers to ice! See a tentacled one-eyed monster turn people into smoking melted corpses! Great sets and funny costumes. Fun model work and bizarre music. At its worst it's cheesy 70's bliss. Season 2 from what I remember stinks. But I'll still check it out. Thought the inclusion of Martain Landau and Barbara Baine (both from Mission Impossible TV show) was weird. c4 B) I think it was a case of hiring both or neither as they were a husband and wife team off topic and in the trivia stakes, did you know their daughter was in the Buffy series? She played Drusilla, one look at that womans eyes and you could guess who her mother was I agree that 1999 is an aquired taste and the series is pretty dated now

mmsock
To be honest I haven't seen this show since it was televised. Yes, I'm that old :( Yet, I remember when it was on thinking that it was entertaining in the intellectual, personal way. If you like the Space Odyssey movies you'll like the show, If you like Firefly you won't. Can you tell I thought Firefly was garbage?
Ulysses
I still love the Eagle space ship design, and considering it was made in the mid 70's the modelling effects where quite good for the time (they didnt get the eagle ships turning right). Even thou star trek TOS was out before Space 1999, space 1999 was the first sci-fi series I ever remember watching. But in this day and age of CGI you have to watch it to appreciate its stories which in the first season it was enjoyable and watchable. Thats the main reason why i will sit and watch shows like space 1999, old dr who, blake 7 etc etc.
starcrunch
I still say that everytime I watch it I keep expecting a mirror ball to come down from the ceiling and everyone to start dancing Travolta style. But that to me is what makes it enjoyable... and I do realize that , that was just a sign of the times. Just like the velour outfits of ST:TOS. I do also agree that the storylines were very intellectual and made you think.
