I don't think it will possible to be any non starfleet personal, so you may not have the problem with idiots so much cause they probably won't enjoy the game since the only thing you can do in the game is be part of a command structure. They may mess around for a bit but get bored fast or simply get booted off their ship or something. Hopefully they will have enough failsafes in the game built into to avoid idiocy cause otherwise the game will be a big lump of failure cause the whole co-operation thing behind it will not happen.

Why pay to play an MMORPG when you can have a STar trek MMORPG for free. If you have Star trek voyager elite force (Torrent available here) you can download RPGX' date=' a mod that changes it into an MMORPG.[/quote']

Interesting, do elucidate more upon thie particular subject. Since I don't think I will be playing the MMORPG. I have the same feelings about most of them as S0V13T does.

It really depends on the price for me.

Same here

There in lies the rub for many of us I think...the cost will be that of a standard PC game plus the monthly fee, which is usually what? 15.99/month or something like that?

Sadly, from my experiene most of the MMORPGs are monthly fees :( -- apart from Guild Wars, but that's really not totally a MMORPG so it doesn't figure into the MMORPG equation.

EQ, WOW, Lineage II etc -- all monthly fees, it's supposed to be the most efficient business model and of course brings in way more money than one without.

download this teaser to see what you can do. Basically you roleplay on a starship (Maps) with between 5 and 20 others. There are some very good maps with multiple decks made for it. Check it out by clicking HERE

If you want to downlaod it, go to www.ef2files.com, then search for RPG-X. then download the mod. NOTE: you need the original Elite Force game to play the mod (Availible on the tracker)

yeah all excellent points, I will also point out that what we 'diehard enthusiasts' need is not a massively multiplayer game, just a good rocksolid multiplayer game, so we can put up our own damn server and not have to deal with Klingons named muffin, etc.

my two latinum

I voted for no, becuase not only do I absolutely hate MMORPG games, I also absolutely hate the idea of paying monthly to play a frigging game. I own Soldier of Fortune 2, and Couterstrike, thats it. I got them for $5, like 5 years ago, and that's all the online gaming I can handle. I tried Ragnarok Online for maybe 1/2 an hour when people were still able to play for free, and it was the stupedest thing I've ever volunterilly done (minus the time the GF put make up on me when I was hammered, totally annihilated)

I can just picture a hundred Ferengis sitting around at a starbase or whatever trying to hock their wares with a voice bubble above their heads reading "Faz0r 4 sael - 1000 barz glod preseed latinem". That and I swear to god that I'd immediatelly leave the house, and play outside in the real world and trade my comp for a handgun with one bullet in the chamber the second I see a borg drone using one of those farked up Anime emoticons like ^-^ or the 13 year old girl Kirby Dance (>')> <(' ')> <(' <) that my 13 year old niece sends me to piss me off when I'm rocking out to Danzig, and breaking bottles and shooting off guns, and doing manly things.

Oh yes, and I can't wait for people to start complaining, and spamming the boards asking the mods to make them a Q or something, seeing federation officers with names like Lt. Commander Sepheroth6969, Admaral chibi_moon and mighty Klingon Warriors pussified with even lamer and lamer user names. I could go on forever on how badly 12 year old kids from all over the world will get together in this online game, and turn it into something that will make die hard fans, like us cry our selves to sleep.

Ahhhhhhhhh! *kicks the cat out the window, and storms off swearing loudly and smashing stuff*

I like your style S0V13T. I tip my hat to you.

I'm getting confused, you need the original elite force game to play it? which is it, EF or EF2?

Well they(the game creators) can force everyone through an SF acadamy training that would be difficult for non fans to get through if they are to play on a couple of servers, let the others be for the loosers.

Has any price for the game been announced yet?

it would be really cool if they did something like Guild Wars, you buy the game, and can play online for free, but you have to pay for new expansions.
