Fenriswolf
Ah, yeah, there's that regarding the region free DVD player. I have a VHS of the Dr. Who movie still in its packaging, plus one version of it that's probably close to on its last legs. It was all we had back then though *G* until BT really took off. The sad thing is that even if I do manage to get my grubby little protuberances on a new copy, it won't match the content of the tape of the actual US broadcast that I've got. Wish Universal and FOX would come to their senses and make it available here. I may have to get cable and tape it off of the Encore Mystery channel this month (though why they are showing it is beyond me), provided of course that it is the uncut US version that they have. Out of curiosity, do you happen to know what got cut?

Something else, I can't quite remeber....I'll have to check...
Potato
here's what was changed between US and UK versions "The version originally aired in Britain and released on video featured the following cuts: Various edits to the opening gunfight sequence, the removal of the seventh Doctor's final scream from the operating table (at the BBCs, rather than the BBFCs request) and a single extra shot of Chang Lee's neck snapping when the Master kills him." - from www.millenniumeffect.co.uk/video/dvdguide or for even more detail "The first scene to be trimmed was the one set in the alley where the TARDIS lands, with cuts including Chang Lee's gang firing at the departing car; Chang Lee's two friends being shot while Chang Lee himself avoids the hail of bullets (consequently, in the edited version the fate of Chang Lee's friends is never shown, although one of their bodies is later visible before Chang lee checks on the Doctor); the third and fourth gunmen aiming at Lee; the gunmen firing at the newly-materialised TARDIS (in the edited version, the arrival of the TARDIS is preceded by a reaction shot of the gunmen taken from the excised material). The other main victim of the BBFC's scissor was the operating scene, and the music had to be rearranged as a result. Drastic cuts were made to Grace's attempts to retrieve the probe and the efforts to revive the Doctor; gone completely are Grace mentioning that the probe is still stuck in the Doctor's body and the Doctor's final scream. Also edited out were the close-up shot of the Master twisting Chang Lee's head, and the sound effect of Bruce's wife's neck snapping (although not the sequence itself). The British version also removed an opening title caption stating that the movie was "based on the original series broadcast by the BBC". The end of the telefilm was followed by a dedication to Jon Pertwee, who had played the Third Doctor and who had passed away on May 20th; this was suggested to Alan Yentob by both Segal and Kevin Davies, director of the Doctor Who documentary Thirty Years In The TARDIS." - from A brief History of Time (Travel) @ www.physics.mun.ca/~sps/serials

Potato
Is it the Uncut version of the version aired in the UK or is it completely uncut? Have you sat down with the above list and verifyed that the things marked as cut are in fact present in the version on the DVD?
Fenriswolf
I'm going to use that list, thanks to you, and sit through it and check them off...I know it might seem a bit sad, but my curiosity is mad enough to try it :) Ok on a whim I went to the scene with the gunmen. Chang Lee fires on the departing car with his friends, Chang Lee's one friend gets shot on camera, falls forwards into the trash and Lee dodges the bullets by hiding behind a barrel. McCoy's final scream as he sits up is in. Bruce's wife's death is in. Not sure if the sound was there, I don't think it was. Lee's close up neck-snap's there too. Potato
Does sound like most of it's there. I'd have done the same thing, so I don't think your sad.
