Also' date=' the quicker the BBC get rid of Graham Nortons Dance Fever the better, hes always asking people to quickly turn over to BBC Three to watch more crappy behind the scenes dancing and doesnt even give viewers the choice to 'Stay and watch Dr Who here on BBC One' [/quote']

LOL glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed by Dance Fever... My wife is convinced I like it as I end up watching the last ten mins trying to get my tv signal as best I can when I DVD record the Dr Who episodes...

Don't know if anyone else has picked up on this, but when the Doctor is talking about the destruction of his home planet he also mentions that he has lost his family. And from the way that he says it, it comes across as though he talking about the Time War.

I wonder if in Boomtown he meets up with Susan. After all Carole Ann Ford could realistically play Susan still, afterall she was an adult in the 5 Doctors. And it would serve as a good 'prequel' to the last story of the season which is supposed to be the return of the Daleks.

For the new fans: Susan was the first companion to the Doctor and is said to be his granddaughter. Although this fact was forgotten as the series progressed. Her final story was the Daleks Invasion of Earth. She stayed to her rebuild the Earth with David, who she had fallen in love with.

You're thoughts?

I guess I am a little behind the curve on this one .I still have not seen any bad eps of the new Dr unlike some of say McCoy or C Baker who had some barely watchable episodes .I do think however that RTD needs to get a few Dr eps with more action driven themes .Still; like I said ,I am not complaining .I would look at one thing for next year though ...making more two parters and possiably a three parter with few if any stand alone episodes . granted Dalek was exceptional but more content in some of the other stories would have been better served . just my very humble opinion

It certainly would fall into my belief that Boomtown will be a reunion with some ally rather than a former enemy.A fellow Timelord like Susan or Romana are both good possiabilities or a former companion as well

I agree with you completely. This is why I haven't marked 'The Unquiet Dead' and 'Long Game' higher because I was just getting in the story when it ended. It is abite flustrating at times and feels like 'Dr Who Lite', but there again would modern audiences watch longer stories, especially this generation of Sci-Fi fans who are used american sci-fi packaged in 45minutes chunks.

This is not an insult btw, it's just how sci-fi on TV is today. I watched 'The Wargames' recently and thought it was brilliant, but could I watch a story over ten 10 weeks - I don't think so. I've already missed two episodes of this series at their braodcast time (thank god for BTtorrents and Niteshdw), due to doing other things.

I'd like a season of say 5 two parters and 3 stand alone epsiode to break them up.

Comment on the brevity of the stories all you want, but remember, there's an underlying thread to the Time War that essentially makes this entire season a story. Judging from the number of topics and posts in the Time War and Bad Wolf threads, we're all buying into this thread running through the series.

In a way, we're getting our long story arc fix, and the general public's watching the 1-episode format and licking it all up.

Enjoy!

Fair point, but I'd still like to see longer stories!!!! BTW I think we've definitely bought into BAD WOLF - little too much lol ;) I hope the punchline is worth the set up.

B4 I go, this from Outpost Gallifrey:-

Father's Day has scored big... 7,471,900 viewers according to the overnights, with an impressive 42.74% of the audience share for the episode. The ITV installment of "Celebrity Wrestling" had only 2.3 million viewers with a 14.2% ratings share. It's an enormous win for "Doctor Who" as the viewers stay equal but the audience percentages get larger. More details soon... (Thanks to Neal Douglas, Nev Fountain)

Hehehehehe. I wonder how we'll perform against the Star Wars movies next week. Still it's only The Phantom Menace

I did like the episode. I really thought that Rose's dad would have made a better comapnion, but of course that was impossible.

My only complaint is this: Why are we still on Earth? The furthest the Doctor has gotten away has ben to orbiting space stations, I sure hope they explain this soon.

For some reason that never even occured to me, but of course you're right. I guess I never noticed because Most of the episodes were all about showing the Humans what they wanted to see, and it just felt very natural the way it was handled.

Theory that comes to mind first (having just watched Fathers Day) is that since Gallifrey IS gone, and since the Doctor IS so fond of earth (as he's stated many times in the past), he feels the need to hang around and protect the earth from the remaining effects of the Time War.

Of course, it could also be he just feels at home there. I dunno... If suddenly I found that my whole family had been killed, I think I'd want to go spend some time in a familiar, comfortable place.

Anyway, as far as this latest episode is concerned, I enjoyed it quite a lot. I wasn't too sure about the evil black creatures, and the Doctor's explanation of them seemed a bit hokey, at first - but then it sort of made sense, and I found myself so engrossed in the superb story that it didn't even matter.

I'm really enjoying the New Doctor Who.

RTD has stated several times that this season was done entirely on Earth or Earth orbit. I've not heard about next season but, I think it's safe to assume that since this season has been so succesfull that it'll happen then. I do not believe there has been any in-show reference as to why they've not left Earth.

It was a very good character driven episode. I really liked it.

The Doctor must have bigger plans for Rose since he can't stay angry at her for very long.

Anyone know when the torrent for this weeks DW Confidential by itself may be coming? Thanks!

I just watched the episode again, and it actually brought tears to my eyes - again. I'm a big oaf of a guy, and I found myself sniffling at the end bit there, as Jackie was telling Rose about the mysterious girl who held his hand as he died.

I've been a Doctor Who fan since 1983 or so, and I never in a million years thought that an episode could be as emotionally gripping as this. Adric's death didn't affect me this much, none of the regenerations, none of the sad moments over the years. Right now, I think this may be my favorite episode of the new season so far. I don't know - Time will tell.

Looking forward to watching the Confidential on this one.

Couple of things:

Pella,

Susan actually appeared in 2 of the Dr. Who UnBound audio adventures from big finish.

Everyone,

I don't think that it was ever officially confirmed that Susan was a timelord. Sure she called the Dr. "Grandfather" but that doesn't mean that he was her Grandfather, perhaps she was just the first companion and it was a sign of respect? who knows. But if she really is his grand daughter then that logically implies that the Dr. had a child and, given the societal norms in place when the show began production, most likely a Wife. This would explain the "loss of family" mentioned previously.

Finally

On one of the fake websites (the one from DALEK) there are a couple of things that I am absolutely convinced are codes but i can't figure them out. The first one is a string of numbers 384.5544308664

and the second is a seemingly random string of letters. MED BIL EOTV

For the numbers, i havent got a clue but for the letters i thought that perhaps they could be an anagram but the best that i could come up with was "Beloved Tim" and "Bleed Vomit". Anyone else have any ideas?
