hubix
As I watched "Demons" and "Terra Prime" I began to wonder, does security in Starfleet really suck? I mean I noticed three things that should have never happend: 1. A woman, member of a xenophobic terrorist organization penetrates Starfleet Command, enters a conference room full of delegates from other planets - potential allies, she carries something in her hand and is wounded. Nobody notices her!!! How did she even got inside the building? 2. Are there no starships patrolling Earth and the Sol System? Was Enterprise the only starship when the mining facility took of from the moon? There was no other ships and defense systems to stop it? It looks like the only time when there is a starship orbiting Earth is when Enterprise is back... 3. Ok, we have the Utopia colony on Mars with several thousand of people, they have a large communication array and a very powerful phase cannon (used to divert comets), that can target every place in the system and obliterate it with one shot. I guess that place doesn't need any protection, no guards, no defense systems, no ships, nothing... And so there is more, one thing from "These are the Voyages...": How can a small ship attack Enterprise and board it without beeing destroyed or damaged first? Or even detected? How can they board it in the first place without getting into a fight with MACO or other security officers, or any other crewmembers? They were there for a long time and no one came to stop them. I think B&B must work on some reality issues if they want to write some more Trek in the future.
rcazant
I agree, the writers probably wanted to fit a lot of action in the last episodes without regarding details. Not really professional, but still good entertainment
aftnium
They haven't talk about Columbia in the Terra Prime. I wonder where she goes

Maybe starfleet believes the earth need protection from the enterprise ....
piepie
I suppose all the ship capable of warp were out of the system and couldn't get back in time to stop Death Star Jr. The rest of the ships were probably too slow or not equiped enough to do anything. Guest c4evap
Maybe they read the script for the final EP and got as far away from Earth as possible... :p c4 B)
piepie
Maybe security would go wild if a small aircraft flew into the no fly zone area of the Earth capital. Just incase they tried to -bounce- the craft off the capital building.
str82u
Maybe they read the script for the final EP and got as far away from Earth as possible... :p c4 B) This is probably the closest thing to the truth.... Actually, when the Enterprise pops out of "WhoKnowsWhereVille" at the end of 4x02 there are a ton of ships to greet them, but when RoboCop launches his lunch wagon.... The other point about security on Mars is also a good point, I guess that's also why the Universal Translator is just now being introduced. I believe it was Richard Dean Anderson who said that the reason all the people they met on SG1 spoke english is to save time.

Nobody notices her!!! How did she even got inside the building? it happens.. even in our post 9/11 world, also keep in mind that MOST war and crime has been removed so its a safer place to be. 2. Are there no starships patrolling Earth and the Sol System? Was Enterprise the only starship when the mining facility took of from the moon? There was no other ships and defense systems to stop it? It looks like the only time when there is a starship orbiting Earth is when Enterprise is back... no warp 5(7) ships in the area with -->>weapons<<-- (or at least the battle experience of enterprise)(remember earth is peaceful) 3. Ok, we have the Utopia colony on Mars with several thousand of people, they have a large communication array and a very powerful phase cannon (used to divert comets), that can target every place in the system and obliterate it with one shot. I guess that place doesn't need any protection, no guards, no defense systems, no ships, nothing... who would bother? thats like stealing a submarine from the navy (while in port of course), yeah, if you had the balls and the resources you could do it. And so there is more, one thing from "These are the Voyages...": How can a small ship attack Enterprise and board it without beeing destroyed or damaged first? Or even detected? How can they board it in the first place without getting into a fight with MACO or other security officers, or any other crewmembers? They were there for a long time and no one came to stop them. no shields to prevent beam in, i would assume the macos ran to the docking ports instead. I think B&B must work on some reality issues if they want to write some more Trek in the future. also keep in mind, it was a holodeck simulation... if they are out of sight, they might not be considered important threads to the cpu. nah, its kinda dirty fun watching them. Never mind security issues - the shadowed areas of the moon, earth, and mars were incorrect and the comet tail went the wrong direction ... But Trek has generally sacrificed science for effects and story line. Just remember it's science fantasy, not science fiction. B) OK, do I get burned at the stake now?
